View Full Version : New Away shirt for next season

Apparently it was confirmed in the Charlton match program(me) that this year's away blue shirt will become the 3rd kit next season and a new yellow shirt, which is coming out in the summer, will replace it as the 1st-choice Away shirt.
So it's goodbye to the crappy Pepsi can design, and back to the away yellow - the way it should be!
Someone on the message boards on the Arsenal World site explained that Arsenal are on a 3 shirt/2 year rotation policy, meaning a new home shirt every other year, a new away shirt every year, and the away shirt becomes 3rd shirt after 1 year.
Got all that? I'll stick to my home red JVC, circa 1999, thanks very much. Honestly, I think it's Unmitigated Crap to change the jersey that often. Yeah, I know nobody's forcing us to buy, but still...

I only had a "quick flick" through the programme on Sunday, so I'll dig it out and confirm from "The Bible" was the story on this is.
Again, I'll back the comment, of "change is too much", but it's "business" and not "football" any more!
Seeing as most of this is aimed at kids who grow, get dirty and rip things, if they stayed with the same design as they used to (Remember the 1970's style staying through to the 1980's!!! Imagine that happening nowadays!!!!!!!).
People would still change every few years even with the same design if only through "wear and tear".
Or am I being too nieve? Jeff.

New yellow kit? Sounds good to me. I never liked the gold too much. How about they bring back the old 1998(?) yellow shirt?

What I'd really like is the away goalkeeper's shirt-- the black and gray one. Nobody seems to have that one for sale, though.
And yes, the design and sponsor changes way too often. My favorite is the Dreamcast home kit from the past couple of years. Unfortunately, those damn things have become impossible to find in XXL. (In fact, everything from the past couple of years except a glut of remaining 3rd kit Henry jerseys at Subside seems to have suddenly gotten elusive... it's annoying, I tell you what.)

All's I can say is that this move comes a year too late. They should have stuck with the yellow and not tried to be fashion plates. I swear one of the players or maybe even AW knew somebody in the fashion industry who told them this was a good idea. But this jersey was the reason why it took me so long to find a Bergkamp shirt. Everyone bought the home shirt, leaving places with stacks of the Magic Eye away shirts, including lettered ones. It took four months for Kitbag to finally get home lettered ones back in stock!

Glad theyre bring it back, Ill never forget the colour at the CWC final vs Valencia in 1980, or the semi final vs Manure at villa park, gave me goose bumps it did.

I was quitwe upset when they moved to blue as I didnt match the team any longer. Not that it matters to anyone on earth but me.

Werent' we the home team, thus wearing red, in both those matches?
At the very least I'm positive we wore red at Villa Park against Man United. Scorched on to my retina as it were.........

Nothing else matters when you look so damn good in such a fine looking shirt. Currently I'm trying to win one on eBay.

I can't see anything in the programme that mentions a new kit for next season?? As for the debate on new kits, as an old-school type I prefer the yellow as our away shirt. The gold did grow on me when we wore that, but this year's blue monstrosity should be binned as soon as possible. And they should only change the shirts every other year, home one year, away the next.

Remember the "one season wonder", circa. mid 80's when we had the green and navy blue away kit (Umbro).
How about going back to those colours??????!!!!!!!!!

This looks okay.....but didn't it morph into some lightning bolt patterned, horrific monstrosity of a jersey a few years later?
Stick with yellow as a 2nd strip, red at home.

Yes it did in the early 90's for a season or so. We got "slated" for it. However Portsmouth later had the same design. Then we "led the way" with the name at the rear and bottom of the shirt, replaced after the "statatory 2 year reign" changing to the "nickname" which afterwards every other team copied. At least we "lead the way" in fashion statements!!
However, you are right. Red at home, yellow away.
Nothing else seems right. Jeff.

Always reminds me of Stewart Robson & Tony woodcock, it's funny how certain shirts remind you of certain players. :)

I thought we were talking about the replay.
Was the initial game played at Villa park too? That I don't remember.
Yes if we wore red in the replay naturally we'd have worn yellow in the first game and United would have worn red.
I remember Valencia wore white in the 81 CWC final so we could easily have worn the reds that time too but I guess we didn't. In our recent fixtures with VCF both teams have worn their first choice colours if memory serves.

I agree with Dan that it is Unmitigated Crap to change the shirt every year, but hey, change is good, right? Just so we don't get like Merchandise United. "Fergie took a crap, so let's change our kits!" Always fun to see what they'll come up with next.
Vive le AFC!
