how many of you can deliberately bend the ball while it's in the air ala Henry or Shevchenko?

how long did it take you to get to that point? how do you practice?

Outgrown the board...how???
I'm sure most of us hit different spots of the ball...its the only way you can get different spins and movement on the ball. If people don't, I'm afraid they're basically missing out most of their game.
I often get spin on the ball, not hitting it straight on is also a good way to kep the ball down.

I can't get it on a volley like that. But if we can discuss hitting the ball in here, what I do like to practise is this (this is on a rahter small (street) court). I get the ball played into my feet at a fast pace, with my right side facing the goal, at the right side of the field. Run up to the ball and hit it full force with the outside right of my foot, up.. Im now at the point that it bends back like crazy and I can get it at goal from almost any point on our street court. It travels down very fast and I've surprised a couple of goalies with it allready.
I hope it's clear. it's a fun technique to practise

You can get 3 or 4 times the bend when you strike the ball while it's in the air as opposed tto on the ground. I'm not sure how it works, but it does....Most players never really explore the spin, even though it's a whole new territory/level of play.
Look at the trick Henry does in the jogabonito commercial...amazing...

That truly is something else. Lovely. I was playing with a few mates lately on a regular goal, no game, just shooting a bit, and this guy hits it on the volley from the point of the box, outside of the foot and spins it over the keeper into the far corner. I dare say it was a more beautiful strike than the Henry one in this thread (although of course, with less opposition). At first he was estatic, cause he scored such a beautiful goal, then he got all gloomy cause he knows he's probably never gonna score like that again :D
Using curve is fun though. I've been watching that Bergkamp goal against newcastle closely lately, and although I'll never get the amazing spin on it he got, let alone with my left foot (I have to use outside right), I'm getting a nicer touch on it. Although I simply will never be able to make it curve back that much on such a small space. My touch is way too brute for that.

top spin is easy on a volley. as for henry's shot, its just outside of the foot. inside spin would be pretty difficult tho.

that tricks is pretty easy...give it a try....hit it with your heel with your toes pointed 45 degrees from the ground
if you want to try a challange...hit it harder so that the ball flys in the air then hit it again with your heel so it chips overs your head..like the rainbow move

i think your thinking of something different henry hits it with his toes onto his heal or something like that.

no....I am talking about pounding the ball with your HEEL at an angle; it will create a top spin that brings the ball back; try to do it with an indoor ball to get used to it

I can put both sorts of curl on a volley (so it either bends to the left or the right) and it's nothing I've consciously practiced, it's just something I've picked up.

Here is a great example of bending and dipping the volley by striking across the ball. Look at how much he follows through to get the ball to dip. I find that striking across the ball is more effective than slicing it with the out side of the foot. You get more power.

Not like that. But I can bend it around a wall if I want to ;) Or off a corner.
