Mine has to be the GolTV coverage of Spain's La Liga.. on the final day, two teams fighting to stay out of the final relegation spot (in seperate games), and the game GolTV's showing, the team needs a last minute goal to survive in La Liga.. and they get it. And the announcers go nuts.
The funniest line, and one I use with friends now..
"The fans are going eeky-palooky!"
I think that was code for the fans were going nucking futs :)

I believe that was Ray Hudson...who is usually more known for making grunting noises or yelling 'magic' whenever a scoring chance develops.
I personally preferred the European announcers on La Liga, especially Carlo Monasterio, I believe his name is. He's the one who always is shouting "What a mistake by....." after a player misses an opportunity. OF course, the most informative of the three Euro-based La Liga announcers is Paul Breen Turner, who not only fills you in on what is happening in La Liga, but gives you a verbal tour of the city in which the game he is announcing is taking place. ("We had lunch in an establishment where Hemingway used to hang out...").
As for theI Florida-based GOLTV announcers, I generally find them enjoyable, but I prefer the calls from Europe when there is an English audio available. There are plenty of games where the studio announcers HAVE to be used, such as the smaller leagues in South or Central America, where I am sure the original telecast is only in Spanish.

Actually wasn't Ray, it was the PbP guy, and even a few seconds later, Ray says "I don't know what eeky-palooky means, but the fans certainly are going it!"

I actually think it was Ray....inthe excitement he came out with the 'eeky-palooky' line, and followed it up, realizing it meant nothing coherent! Besides, I forget who the play-by-play guy was, but I can't see Phil Schoen, Lindsay Dean, or Kelly O'Donnell coming up with a phrase like that.

I thought it was Phil, but GolTV has it in their bumpers, so maybe if they show it again, we can find out

I think it was Dean and Hudson doing the game and I also think Dean said the comment not Hudson.

It was this:
_____________________________
LINDSEY DEAN: "They are going ickybalookie at the Montjuic!"
RAY HUDSON: "I couldn't put it better myself, whatever the hell 'ickybalookie' means! That's what happening here! Scenes of absolute jubilation for Espanyol! And for myself, impersonally, I can't believe it! I'm not impartial today, I'm an Espanyol fan, I'd hate to say it for the Real Sociedad fans out there and for all the other guys' fans! But this is a team that would not be denied, Espanyol! They kept on hammering at the dam! They were hitting the goalposts, time after time, they kept on believing ... I don't even know who the hell scored!"

I did not see that game, but I have seen the clips on TV. Its alittle bit over the top - by just making up a word, and then Hudson commenting on the word and saying he did not know who scored? Isnt the analyzer's job to know this?
My vote is Phil Shayne (not sure of spelling) from Gol Tv. He used to work for ESPN. He calls the game and does not ramble on too much.

Sorry to bring a dead(old) thread back but the best US PbP guy is the Spanish Guy (Can never get his name for the life of me) on GolTV. He called the Sat Bundesliga game with the initial bad feed.
If i ran things - he would have moved to europe a long time ago if it would save us money.
He understands the business he his in.. Same league as the european announcers to a very high level. Not sure why he his always missed during discussions about PbP announcers.
As have suggested in the past - keep those other guys away from commentary.
