Chinese defence looked comical against Swizterland.

What alarms me is that Trezeguet will not be starting. The man is magical, France needs him to play.

no, there have been a number of matches wherein the team could've and should've used someone else in his stead. France does not "need" him to play.

as for domenech, no use in beating a dead horse - he sucks, yes, but let the team play. It is more than capable of doing well even with his tactical ignorance.

This article in Eurosport seems to agree that Cissé might not be such a bad idea after all.

http://www.eurosport.fr/football/coupedumonde/2006/sport_sto899862.shtml

The points I got from the article were these:

a) Since Henry naturally tends to drift left Cissé tends to drift to the right.
b) Cissé impressed in the practice match when he scored a hattrick
c) Cissé was the leading scorer for Les Bleus during the qualifiers.

Maybe another good reason to play him against China is that if he gets injured it won't be as bad as if Trez did.

Everybody tends to bash Cisse and yes he is unorthodox when it comes to the game. However, Liverpool have been wanting to off load him and look how many goals he has scored for them. Cisse has scored some good goals for us during the qualifying rounds. I think we should give him a chance. I don't care who freakin' scores the damm goals, as long as we score them! Tomorrow is a friendly so it can't hurt to assess the situation.

Playing Cissé on the right side like Benitez does is a joke…
Djibril is not a fantastic player but he can score many goals if he's alone upfront. Wiltord or Ribéry or even Dhorasoo should play on the right because Vieira just sucks anywhere but in the middle.

I am a huge fan of David Trézéguet but the whole Juve affair is upsetting him mentally and you can see it even when he's training…

With two offensive players on wings such as Malouda and Ribery, I don't believe we necessarily needs two strikers. Henry is enough I believe.

Benching Trezeguet is just unbelievable…

David Trezeguet 62 caps, 31 goals.
Thierry Henry 77 caps, 32 goals.

Relying on Henry alone will once again deceive.

Barthez
Sagnol Thuram Gallas Abidal
Makelele
Wiltord Zidane Malouda
Trezeguet Henry

should be the winning team, with Ribéry replacing Malouda or Wiltord after 50 or 60 minutes.
Wiltord & Malouda can defend very well as we know it in Lyon.
I think our main issue will be Patrick Vieira shape: i would bet my girlfriend's lust and jollity he'll make too much fouls (red cards & fk ahead) and won't protect enough the right side leaving Sagnol alone.

Cisse is not the guaranteed starter according to L'Equipe. But the rest of the field is pretty accurate in terms of who will start against Switzerland. Seems like the coach is still trying to gauge who he will start with Henry up front. I, like everyone else, like Saha to partner with Henry. Ribery has been brilliant in his limited time on the field, but it seems Domenech wants him as the spark off the bench.

Even though it appears to be a defensive line up, we will have excellent counter attack abilities with Henry and whom ever does end up his partner, whether it be Cisse, Saha, Wiltord, or Trezeguet. That is where the majority of goals will come from if not free kick situations.

I would prefer Saha at the moment to start over Cisse and Trez. Wiltord would be an excellent option as well. I think people have forgotten him.

Add in Dhorasoo and the attact will be complete! Not!!!!! With Zizou's ability for passing, and Ribery if he gets in, will find the two up front on the counter. I feel confident we will score enough goals to win!

the encounter predictably dominated w/ respect to attack by the french. the chinese are earning quite a few fks in good positions and corners though which isn't particularly encouraging.
