I'm watching this. It's awesome. Stuff like this just gets me more pumped for the WC.

oh man they just showed Rooney's first ever goal in the Premiership. Unbelievable. Everton taking on undefeated Arsenal, 70th minute and he just bends it into the upper 90 from 35 yards out.

i'm so pissed ABC in DC is showing infomercials instead of this.

Landon just called Reyna the best player on the team, with O'Brien not far behind him

will they be doing this during the world cup?
if so, i say we start the biggest f*ing riot, ever

Arena made it sound like he was definitely walking away from the team after the World Cup.

Yesterday Channel 7 didn't show the special on greatest moments in US soccer. Seems there's a pattern here. Really have to wonder if they're going to show all the ABC-scheduled matches this month.

Can you say 'renegotiated contract'? :D
(Of course, he'll need a result or two....)

There are programs you are allowed to pre-empt and programs you aren't allowed to pre-empt. I have a funny feeling the World CUp is in the second category.
ABC has had the WC before - how often have they pre-empted games?

Interesting show, although we've heard a lot of this many times.
Also, how much did EA pay to get that 30 minutes of commercial time in there about their World Cup video game (USMNT huddled in room playing playstation)?
Landon's recollections on Mexico are choice though "...we kicked their assss.."
- At least we are not getting Olympic-style "feel good" stories about someone's crippled brother and "overcoming the odds".

It was very odd that they didn't give Claudio any face time, seeing as he is the captain and all. Maybe he should start playing Xbox.
Also, why were they showing the same three commercials over and over during the first half hour? That Puma commercial is dull. Would have much preferred to see a few of the 'Joga Bonito' spots.

It's not ABC preempting, it's local stations. And that, of course, will vary based on where you live. Chicago seems to be quite good about it, though I haven't watched previous WCs.

it seemed very much like abc just did this to give "fifa 360 xbox" (as lalas called it) a big promo... not cool.
also i liked wynalda calling henry, "teery henry" and ronaldinho, "ronalD-een-yo" and not as flowing as his name should be

A LOT of major markets decided to not show the replay of the WC final last year. I know for a fact Detroit was one of them (thankfully I live in the Flint market)

DC is good with the WC... they showed the replay in 2002... and i remember reading articles about them getting great ratings in the eeerea

Local stations don't always have the right or the interest to pre-empt. Make you a deal - let's talk on July 10 and see how many times games are pre-empted. Let's not get in a hissy fit because a couple of time buy specials on ABC were pre-empted in some markets.
In other news, I'm pissed I forgot to record this. Argh!

The ABC affiliate here in South Bend did not show the World Cup final in 2002 live. I had set the VCR and was shocked when it recorded Cops. In a matter of incredible luck, I got off of work early and caught the replay.
So, while it's not a concern yet, it also is not without precedence.
