yep - we still got a league playing with a lot of potential Nats.

Right now, Adu is starting to take the league over and making an arguement that he, not Landon, just might be the best American in MLS.

Josh Gros has been the most consistent Yank in MLS this season, and I'm starting to wonder if he can warrant a look at LB. He's athletic, got decent skill, and is absolutly tenacious. Reminds me a lot of ManU's leftback, Gabriel Heinze (even though he plays further upfield for DC United)

those are the two American's who have stood out for me the most in the first quarter of MLS. Yea they are both DCU players, but it shouldn't be a surprise since this DCU team might be the best team in MLS since Arena loaded his DCU teams with National Team players.

Jeff Cun... ah, that boat has long sailed....

BTW, as I have my TV on, Heinze is (was) playing left-central defender for the Albiceleste, with Juan Pablo Sorin on the wide left.

well if we played the Chicago Fire 5 times a year then Cunningham would go down as a great for USA

and a bit off-topic, but I like Heinze at Center half. Kinda like a smaller version of Vidic, but with all the insanity. And what channel are you watching this on? all I can watch is the 5th replay of England Jamaica

Jeffro's chip over Thornton is a goal-of-the-week candidate (actually the first off a volley was excellent as well)... Argentina-Angola is on Telemundo (taped from last ... Tuesday?)

I'm calling it now, Gros makes 2010 roster at either LB or RB.

I dont even know if it was goal of the game. Plotkin launched a bomb. And had another bomb bounce off the crossbar. That kid can shoot.

Gros' technical skills have improved enough that I can see him
getting some domestic-based Nats caps.

His domestic comp at fullback over the next two seasons:
Dunnivant, Albright, Wynne, Burciaga, Hejduk...

Mulrooney has been strong for Big D. Coulda given Olsen a run
for that 8th midfielder slot if not for the knee injury.

Chad Marshall too, ole Jimmy Conrad will probably stick around too as our next Eddie Pope; the old guy we keep around because everyone loves and respects him.

since theres a relative post ive posted on just now, ill go with my starting MLS 11 post WC too :p

------------------Guzan------------------

-----------Marshall------Conrad-----------
Wynne----------------------------Dunivant

-------------------JOB--------------------
Gaven--------------------------------Mapp
-----------------Donovan-----------------

-----------Cooper-------Rolfe-------------

Guzan because Hartman and Reis arent getting any younger, time to bring in the next crop.
Marshall becuase upside...upside....upside. Big guy who could be a force in the back. Conrad will be our experience guy. Wynne and Dunivant, self explainatory.
Ah Johnny O, my boldest prediction. Im going with the prediction that he WONT GET INJURED THE REST OF HIS CAREER :D . There, i said it, god bless you Mr Obrien! Gaven because i think he'll be bobby convey in right side form. Donovan because, well, he's Donovan. And Mapp would be my favorite on the left side. ***NOTE im assuming Adu and Dempsey are well overseas by now, so that should clear up any confusion.
Up front, who's paired with McCooper is anyone's guess. Im going to go the conservative route and say rolfe because his playing style perfectly compliments the big target man.

Some of the guys who have impressed so far this season are just too old to be in consideration for the next World Cup. Guys like Cunningham, Razov, Jacob Thomas, Mulrooney, Mullan. At the same time we have a number of rookies who are showing well - Bornstein, Klestjan, Ballouchy, Groenwald and others. I think we need to remain cautiously optimistic about them, as it takes more time to evaluate a player. I remember when many US fans (myself included) were very surprised when Herculez Gomez wasn't called up to the US camp this winter, but do you hear anyone complaining about that now?

Aside from the aforementioned groups of players, I think there's plenty of young Americans in MLS that have shown well. I think it's too early to judge now, but I definitely see imporvement in some players, especially Gros and Adu.

I don't know about that. I saw Adu play for the first time this year against the Revs last night. In the span of two minutes he was easily dispossessed by Jeff Larenowicz, followed by Jay Heaps, and then I think Joe Franchino (I'm uncertain on who the third one was). I mean easily dispossesed like he dribbled the ball right into their legs. That's losing the ball 3 times in 2 minutes, and to those guys. Not very impressive.

I like Wynne, Kleijstan, Gros, Clark, Beckerman, Brad Davis and Chad Marshall, I love Burciaga coming forward but he'll get eaten up on the international stage defensively, (look at the MLS V Real Madrid game). Marshall is looking better and the Crew are perhaps loaded with future NATS stars, Szetela, Gaven, Grabavoy, Garey. Gros has improved a lot since his rookie year, has always been a gamer thats why he's always been a starter. And of course Adu is starting to light it up. Mapp, Rolfe, Jacqua also could make an impact, MLS is getting deeper with American talent no doubt.

Remember? I remember getting negative rep and being called less than flattering names for suggesting that he wasn't very impressive. HOw's that lookin' now, guys?

Ah. Baseball. Swimming pools. Fireworks dispalys. DCU fans claiming Josh Gros should get called up to the national team. Must be summer.

yeah I never thought Gomez was good enough to get a cap either, but he still can improve, I think he's on a horrible team right now, and being used in a position, at least last game (right wing) that really isn't his best position, give him some time, still think he'll turn into a good exciting MLS player but never a US MNT constant. I do like Gros though and I'm not a DCU fan, his skills are not the best but he's got a great engine, and hey Bruce has called up guys like Zavagnin and Victorine why not give Gros a shot eventually, his ability to play on both wings is also good to see.

he does that once in awhile, in a span of another 5 minutes he put in 4 DC United players for good chances on goal.

I still wish Herc had been called in. Who knows what he could
have done under Arena's coaching...

I'm stunned that half of this thread has been about DCU players without a single mention of Carroll. Carroll has probably been DCU's best player this season.

I wouldn't pat yourself on the back just yet. The entire L.A. squad looks like complete crap under Sampson, kind of like Costa Rica looked under Sampson, and how the US looked under Samspon before as well in the Cup. When the coach is crap, like Sampson or Andrulis, getting an accurate read on player development is practically impossible. I'd wait on a final judgement on Gomez till his teammates get back from the Cup, hopefully next month, and Sampson is canned and a competant coach is hired.

Landon still looked just fine . . .
