What about Steve Davis of the Dallas Morning News? I was wondering if he'd be there.

Nice thread by the way.

The St Louis Post Dispatch guy usually goes. That's always stuck out at me because I didn't used to consider St Louis a soccer town.

Guessing this is a version of the Spinal Tap, "don't worry about the cancelled contract in Boston, it's not much of a college town.." joke.
Just in case it wasn't, before MLS it was one of the only soccer towns in the US.

I was young and ignorant and didn't used to associate anything but baseball with St. Louis. Now I'm old and a little less ignorant and am aware that St. Louis is more than that.

Yes indeed. Tom Timmermann is in Germany. He has a blog on the paper's website, which is www.stltoday.com. Pretty good stuff so far, even if it's just a couple days in.

I assume Michelle Kauffman of the Miami Herald will go too. She went to the last one (but then she covered Fusion too at that time)

Chris Cowles is credited as a "Miami Herald writer" on his latest USMNT story. I believe he had been working for the Herald's parent company as a roving soccer reporter until the Herald changed hands recently.

for newsweek, mark starr will not be there, but a guy in the berlin bureau will report, as will henry kissinger (in column form).

Jon DeNunzio (WP) has a blog on WC2006. There's a link to it from the Post's website, from any Steven Goff article.

Also, here's a link: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/worldcup/

Newsday (Long Island) is sending its top soccer reporter who goes by the codename "AP". ;)

The Chicago Tribune has got so send someone. Phil Hersh? With players like McBride and DMB from the region, that's a selling point.

One of the Seattle papers may send someone because of Keller, although that one may be a little bit of a stretch financially.

And this may be a situation in which a writer goes on his or her dime because they have relatives in Germany (in the armed forces, perhaps) and will cover games between visits.

On FIFA's list of credentialed media for the CZE-USA match, 30 daily U.S. newspapers are represented, which is a pretty good number given the shaky state of the industry.
