View Full Version : Momentum on Iran's side

It looks pretty obvious that Mexican fans on this board are starting to get worried....and the hypocrisy is obvious.
We tied (beat in my opinion) Croatia, beat Costa Rica and Bosnia...
Mexico has beat Venezeula and Congo! They lost to France and the Holland B team.....
Once our training in Switzerland began the Mexican fans said we were picking on easy club teams for easy wins....but guess which team is going to play an easy club team in Germany for an easy win?
-------
No matter how much of Mexico fan you are, you can't ignore that Iran is coming into next weeks game with more momentum that you guys. We haven't lost any WC preparation games, and you guys are coming off of two demoralizing losses which showed the whole world Mexico is NOT a top seed team.
I think the game will be really close, and while I didn't think Iran could beat Mexico when the groups were announced, these last few games have totally changed my mind.
Assuming that Karimi, Mahdavikia, and Zandi are back next week I am sure Iran will give Mexico a good game.
-------
The best part is we have nothing to lose! If we lose everyone will say we were expected to anyways, so I am sure Iran will be playing with less pressure than a Mexico team which really has to prove itself after not being able to beat the top teams it is supposedely comparable to.
-------
So I think Iran has more momentum coming into the match, and Mexico has a lot more to prove because they are the obvious favorites but their results aren't showing that....this will definately work to Iran's advantage.

i am curious ! is there a specfic reason there are not too many
players from Mexican NT playing in Europe?
Iran has a great pool of talents and i am not talking
about their starters. I am refering to the players
who will be on the bench and ready to shine..
kazemian, borhani, madanchi, shojaie, enayati.. any of
these guys, can be starter anytime if we did not have
our reg starters who play in europe (5 guys).
iran 3-2 mexico

There's no doubt that Mexican fans have been showing much more concern about our chances lately. That concern though, is pretty much all about what we were expecting to happen after the first round. We are still pretty confident that Iran and Angola will be non issues for us. We're worried about what comes after. We hold the bar quite high.

Indeed:D meanwhile Iran will try to reach or surpass their bar set by having one win in their WC history by beating the USA 98' team that was garbage

What Mexico's fans think, and Iran's fans want to hear, is really irrelevant. Glad to bring a smile to your face though. I'm not really such a bad guy.:D
I'm sure both teams will be prepared as well as they possibly could and both teams will start out cautiously. The game will shed it's cautiousness after about 15 minutes.
It's the WC! Both teams have pressure on them. We've never been seeded and all of your countrymen think this is your best team ever. So in my opinion, regardless of history, both sides have quite a bit of weight on thier shoulders.

You're right. They can't possibly do worse. If they lose to Angola too, then they will be a complete laughing stock. I really don't think that's gonna happen, but it's a possibility. So at worst, they will achieve what they have achieved before. One WC victory. Then they can say, we have two WC victories!:D

We will say we have two WC victories 90 minutes into this WC. :D

I must admit this is one of the games I'm looking forward to the most in the group stage... just behind Cote d'Ivoire vs Holland (that would make my World Cup if Cote d'Ivoire beats Holland, even if the USA loses all 3 games) and Sweden vs England. Good luck to both teams.

i hope iran and portugal both go threw.. but if you wanna talk about momentum portugal is coming in with the most..taking into consideration they dont lost today.. they went undeafeted threw qualifying and havent lost a warm up game yet.. and im not 100% sure but the last game they lost was vs ireland for a friendly.(portugal doesnt usally play good for friendlies) thats why italy always beats us in friendlies ;) just wait untill they play us in a real compitioon

Ok, here is what I wrote in another forum and is my honest opinion:
I hope people think logically about advancing to the second round. Of course anything is possible in football, but logic says we will have less chance of advancing than Portugal and Mexico. We lacked good preperation for this world cup, one of our best player Kia has not played with the team for sometime now and Karimi and Hashemian our other deciding factor players are not 100%. Our sub players do not have international experience in this level. Our chances are left on elements of surprise, luck and indivitual skills and opponents possible miscalculations. Mexico, although does not have individuals that stand out (except for one or two) but plays as a TEAM and last time I checked football is a team sports and Portugal has both, of course both teams have their weaknesses, but had better preperation for this games.
Is like you have not study enough for your final exam, alot of times you come so close to passing it but you fail, or in rare occasions you get lucky and somehow pass it. I hope of the latter for our team.

We learned what momentum meant the last time around, Mexico qualified from the first round with 7 points, undefeated, on top of Italy.
The United States qualified from the 1st round with 4 points, having just taken a 3 goal thrashing from Poland, fortunate that Korea scored a winning goal against Portugal in the 70th minute or Portugal would have gone ahead on goal differential.
And we're the ones who went home. There's momentum for you.

Remember Greece of 1994? There is no reason why Mexico can't fulfil that status in 2006. :D
