I got the idea from the foreign born players. How about the cities with the highest number of players at WC? This is strictly according to birth certicates. I cannot look into 500 players and find out where they grew up.

I can help you with the info that Zagreb is top in the Croatian squad with five players. I'm intereseted how many players on the German team were born in Berlin, because we have two also.

You will also have Simunic and Didiluca who were born in Melbourne to add to Aussies born there, and Seric, born in Sydney.

Šimunić was born in Canberra, and Didulica was born in Geelong (I don't know where that is, maybe a Melbourne suburb?).

Geelong (I don't know where that is, maybe a Melbourne suburb?).
It is a city about 70 km outside of Melbourne, in the western district. It has quite a large Croatian community base.Is also where Skoko grew up, although he was born in Mt Gambier.

Sorry, got Simunic wrong:o , I was actually thinking of Geelong as a Melbourne suburb, in the same way as Central Coast and even Wollongong are considered the same in Sydney - don't know if it really applies to Geelong though?

It will probably be in countries where a city takes up a large proportion of the total population, i.e. Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Seoul.

I looked at the profiles of some of the teams. It is hard to tell wityhout knowing the geography of their home counbtries. There are not many players listed Buenos Aires or Rio de Janeiro as their place of birth. I know some of the places are suburbans of thise big cities.

No it certainly doesn't. Geelong is definitely not a suburb of Melbourne. Go Josip!
