As expected, he's signed and will start practice in two weeks. I don't know about everyone else, but I can't wait for the day when VdB, EJ, Wolff and Conrad are all back. Of course, that's AFTER the US wins the World Cup. :)

It's Dave van den Bergh (not Gergh) and he is one of the best players on that position.
Congratulations with this player. Are there any supporters joining the match in New Jersey on 14 oct ?

yay, some good news. Glad it's finally to be announced.
2.5 years. So he's here through 2008. Nice. I don't recall if we knew it was 2.5 years before.

I had always just heard it was a "long term" contract. 2.5 isn't very long in my mind.

I might be in New York around then, but the dates aren't set yet. If I am, I will definitely go to the game.

Moves like this go a long way towards dispelling the myth that KC can't attract top caliber European talent. We can and we will. Call it the Dayton Moore factor, but many top players continue to want to play in a city that is family-friendly, with low media pressures, and with a very high standard of living. Maybe we couldn't have attracted Gazza in his prime, but KC really does offer a lot of bang for the buck to a professional athlete.
Props to the FO for getting VdB in here.

Agreed. That's why players like Meola really loved living and playing here, he wanted to stay but the FO didn't play ball, maybe VdB will love the city as much as we all do.

I'm glad it's finally official. With the track record of MLS/KC actually coming through on rumored signings, it's nice to see that all of this is done and we'll be seeing this guy in KC soon. Can't wait to see him either, he seems like the real deal.

If stats on FM are anything to go by this guy is going to be our best player. :)

Well... We wish Dave all the best. It was one of our top-players in Utrecht. His assist are unique. I think you will love this player. He is always willing to go for the team.
His wife is American and they made the decision to move to the US. Dave scored the only goal in the Cup Final 2 years ago when FC Utrecht won with 1-0 against FC Twente.

We'll definitely take care of him. I've already got my Dutch flag to try to make him feel at home. :)
Like Allstate, he'll be in good hands with us. ;)

Congrats, sounds like a great signing. Too bad window doesn't allow him to play until July.
As an MLS fan, and a KC follower I look forward to seeing something like this:
Oshoniyi
Garcia Conrad Thomas Burciaga
Victorine Zavagnin Van Den Bergh
Wolff Johnson Arnaud
That sure looks like a team with a lot of potential.

KCBearcat, is that a UC connection?

Actually, here's the way I'd like to see the lineup...
Oshoniyi
Groenwald Conrad Garcia Burciaga
Victorine Zavagnin VdB
Wolff Johnson Arnaud

Nope. Northwest Missouri State, also the Bearcats. :)

I'd be shocked if he weren't playing left forward.

I was going to say, I think we've discussed more than a few times that VdB doesn't play midfield. He plays left wing-forward, we play a formation that has that position, so it would make sense for him to be in that position. His addition will most likely push Davey, or Wolff, to Jewsbury's attacking midfield role and push Jack to the bench.

I haven't really been able to get a handle on how our midfield has really played this season. I know nominally it's been JJ on the left, Z in the center, and Victorine on the right (or do I have that backwards?) but usually, the games I've seen, Victorine has played mostly in the middle of the park in a center midfield role, with Zavagnin behind him. Jewsbury... can't really tell you off the top of my head where I've seen him the most. Haven't we been playing more of a 4-1-2-3?
