Pires is not suprised

You bet ! In fact, he's been intervening on Europe1 radio all this year -every Thursday- and the gimmick was something like 'still no phone call from Domenech ?'.

It's a shame really, I think he deserved Dhorasso spot on the squad, but being an Arsenal supporter of course i could be baised. If only he had a chance to shine in the Champs league final...

Pires hasn't done "Jack" all season for this to even be a topic of conversation. I like him as a player et al but there were definitely others more deserving. The role he and Dhorasoo play are completely different, so unless he's become a playmaker, this isn't a topic of conversation for me.

As long as Franck Ribery is in the squad and fit - Pires can sit on his backside and lament all he wants.

Domenech or no Domenech - I don't think he's good enough for the side.

Are you saying Pires wasn't a playmaker for Arsenal?

There's 2 players that clearly didn't deserve to be at the WC : Dhorasoo and Givet. Both are "les chouchous du boss" (oooh I don't know how to translate that)
Domenech digs them. I even remember him talking on TV (it was sunday night on M6) about his relation with the french players
- Dhorasoo : he has a strong connection with him. Vikash is a loony, so is Domenech. Ray spoke about the fact that "le courant est passé entre eux" and that he really likes Vikash. They're both mystical and rather strange.
- Givet : he is like Ray, at least that's what Domenech told. He fights until the end, he's a fighter, like Raymond was when he was a player. Every team needs a player like that .Well that's Raymond's words

Since that day, I knew that whatever happened, Dhorasoo and Givet would be on his list.

It's a well known fact that Domenech and Pires had a problem once and since that day, it's over for Pires and the NT. That's the french spirit.

Domenech is a loony, he trully believes in that whole astrological bullshit and he even pretends to use it to analyse players complementarity and behaviour. I don't think that's the main problem with Pires, but maybe players like Chimbonda or Saha are in the list because of their birthdates LOL

He couldn't even start at Arsenal this season and he's left as a result of it.

You still upset about losing Champion's League. Let it go. You guys will be back next year and I think even better as a result of it.

If you weren't an OM fan I might be able to see where you're coming from but since you are and I'm a PSG fan and Vikesh plays for the forces of good and not the Evil Empire, I have to disagree with you just because.

this looks like the bast place to mention a that the nouvel observateur this week has a special WC addition, it's well worth picking up if you're not a NObs subscriber; there's nothing on their site from it unfortunately.

anyway, the best part is a detailed diagram of the clans in the EdF. whether the author (sorry, don't have his name handy, will get back to you about that) is more authoritative than the lumpensupportariat isn't certain, but he seems well informed!

henry's bandthe coach's cliquethe rappers
henry, vieradhorasoo, givetwiltord, cissé

the zidaniens the lyonnais

the loner the independents

he indicates the relations between the groups and with ray by smiley faces, which i can't indicate here w/o exploding the post.

basically henry's band and zidane are  with each other and with domenech. the independents are good with ray and stay out of everybody's way. the lyonnais are OK with everyone.

it is postulated that coupet and anelka were both sacrificed as a tradeoff, with the zidaniens, who wanted nico and barthez.

the reasons for pirès being left off were one or all of a) his walking out (flying out actually) on the team after being substituted in cyprus b) his sponsor fiascos c) an old "sentimental" conflict

this table gives an interesting reading to different recent happenings:

the high praise of ribery in the press, and henry's big hug for chimbonda at after the win over denmark: political jockeying?

the biggest hugs for ribery were from abidal and malouda... the team wanted ribery to kick his peno... he insisted wiltord take it. solidarity between L1 honchos? gestures between players who see themselves as future teammates? a youth reaction against the zidane clique?

on the other hand, there are signs of détente...

thuram's generous statements about the coupet crackup; zizou's statement supporting dhorasoo.

it's perhaps just fluff, but interesting nonetheless!

Ribery and Henry seem quite chummy now.in fact everybody seems to be his best friend, on the field, in the press... everybody except... the zorro posse.

i'm not saying they don't like him. but where the others have knocked themselves out to make him feel good, i haven't yet seen any old ones at it.
