I am absolutely confused. Jon Fortune is given a new contract and Chris Perry has been released. What is going on at this club?

Chris Perry has obviously been our best central defender over the last few seasons yet they let him go for someone who has been less than average at times. In addition they signed Sorondo even though the guy is injury prone and finds himself been suspended a lot.

I'm at a total loss......

Yes I agree, as Chrissy's wages couldn't of been more than like 15k/wk.. who are they going to get at that price that can be that consistent? Granted he wasn't overly spectacular but is someone they should want in their squad.

Everytime I think of Fortune I think of the highlight reel of Henry's back heel goal at highbury. I think that made one of the recent nike commercials.

Most of the discussion on the Addick email list thinks that Perry was offered only a one year contract and Chris wanted it to be like three years.

The other thing is that Richard Murray said he was very happy that they had a lot of players out of contract so that Dowie could bring in the people he wanted. I can't imagine Fortune was one of those.

In case you hadn't heard, they have also terminated the contract of Jay Bothroyd. His contract was for three years but the club had an option to terminate if he didn't meet a certain appearance requirement. I'm not sad to see him go. He was very lazy.
