I can't stand it anymore.

DC gets a player, we get Bozo the Clown. I know the guy's an old fat slob, but at least they're DOING something over there. Crew, as usual, is just bending over and dropping their pants.

I know it's early, but I can't help it; I need to get drunk quickly, and stay drunk for a long time.

Anybody have some suggestions as to what goes well with complete frustration?

massive email campaign to Smith coupled with massive gin and tonics, bombay saphire gin and tonics.
Jim.Smith@mlsnet.com is the adress you need, though i do not know the adress of your closest liquor store....
if the deal isn't to be struck till wed perhaps enough outrage will change his mind, probably not, but tell him how you feel anyway.

The transcript of what I sent to smith:

Dear Mr. Smith,

It is alleged that we will trade our discovery option to DC United so that they can obtain Paul Gascoigne. Please proceed with caution if this is the case. We are giving our closest rival, and top competition for the 8th playoff position, an opportunity to pick up someone who will help their team. Please stay strong and follow your conscience, the decision that you make will affect this club for years to come.

Sincerely,

Zak

that was fast...

Dear Mr. xxx,

Wow, the rumor mill has run amok. I believe very little I read on the internet. I would advise that you do the same.

Thanks for the comments.

Jim

I just re-read the comments from the dispatch, it seems to me that they are in the process of signing someone themselves as the discovery option. Who knows what to believe, either way Gazza is set to be signed on Wed., we'll see then.

I believe that they DO read the internet stuff. Everybody else in MLS does. Clark Hunt and John Wagner do. Even Arena does. To believe that they don't is absurd.

Secondly, last week, when this whole Gazza thing looked like a done deal, MLS suddenly put the brakes on it. The press reported that MLS had suddenly become aware of "adverse fan reaction" to signing old drunk wifebeaters.

If it wasn't on line, where else would they have heard this outcry? Certainly not the radio talk shows or newspaper Letters to the Editor.

Third, frankly, I'm convinced that the internet outcry forced Jim Smith's hand on this Northend deal. He may not read the internet, but he sure got ahold of that site and issued his own personal take on the incident when they dumped on him.

And I'm convinced, although I have no proof, that the whole "I'm not involved, work it out with these guys" compromise was because of fan pressure. He looked bad, he KNEW he looked bad, and he found a way out. (And frankly, it was handled masterfully. In honesty, the guy is very good at PR. A real pro. And good for him.)

So I don't think it falls outside the realm of possibility to suggest that there are even now some forces at work on this whole thing.

And I believe the two people who saw the report that Chris Bergin had up naming Namoff as the player. I also believe that the report is not there anymore.

In the past, at Teamtalk, he has done this same thing: posted something up and either altered it or pulled it because of a request from the league.

Is all this pure speculation? Abso-frikkin-lutely.

But this thing may not be over yet.

I have to say, Zak's letter was good. Why help our rival beat us to the play-offs

Yep, exactly what they said when they denied that Garcia coming to Columbus was a "done deal". Same thing they said last year about Torres coming to the Crew although Torres was training with the Crew at the time. Definitely shouldn't read what's posted by knowledgable fans on the internet.

Yeah,

I wanted to change the avatar and I wanted to take an opportunity to use my PC's photo editor, plus I figure I am not as ugly-looking as the fat bastard Gazza.

O gotta say, this thread is about ME, dammit, ME ME ME!!!!

I do't want it cluttered up with recipes or hairstyling tips. I want BOOZE talk here.

It's all Eggy's fault. He hasn't yet started one of his infamous "BEER" threads since the servers crashed, and since we apparently aren't bright enough to do one of those "Word Association" threads that SOME team's fans use to run their Forum's post count through the roof, our BEER threads and our Soft Core Porn is all we have to generate posts.

At least hang was to the point: Bombay Sapphire and tonic (Schweppes is nice, CD is OK, stay away from generic) is certainly a step in the right direction.

And Peter, for God's sake, lay off the dope, willya? Those seed burns on all your shirts are a dead giveaway.

I have no ********ing idea what I was talking about. Goddammit. I'd go back to the beginning but it just doesn't seem worth it.

Ah who cares anyway.

Speaking of rumors, I read one somewhere today where a guy was saying he had reliable information that McBride was headed to Rosenborg in the Norwegian Tippelliga.

Just wanted to give Splarg the heads up. ;)

(No, man, I'm as serious as a crutch - the guy swore it was true)
