"Once in a Lifetime" (http://www.avid.com/profiles/060423_lifetime_composer.asp?featureID=974&marketID=)
For the many of you who were born after the NASL went bust, this film is about the rise and fall of the New York Cosmos. It'll eventually air on either ESPN or espn2 (or both), though I don't know exactly when.
Here (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0489247/) is the upcoming film's IMDb page. :)

the accompanying book was originally supposed to be published in spring 2005, then this spring, and it is still not released.
I hope I'm wrong, but don't get your hopes up.
along those lines, Jack Bell's piece in the first issue of Striker on the Cosmos was excellent, probably the best piece that magazine ever ran.

This is almost identical to "The Game of their Lives" isn't it? When the hell is that DVD ever going to be released?

I just wanted to bump this thread, and say that it's 5 July, and the book is still not available on amazon, altho you can find the trailer for the documentary here and there on the web.

In the meantime, you can read this article (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=cosmos), as well as view the movie's trailer there.

wasn't the movie only released in NYC last week, and nationwide this coming weekend?
Either way, I haven't seen the movie. The book is pretty good so far, some annoying errors (like the soccer team in Baltimore referred to as the Colts in one place), but on the whole it's worth reading. I know there are some on the board, like me, who grew up in Cosmos country, and it was a wild ride.

It's supposed to open nationwide this coming Friday, but I still can't find a nearby theater that has it scheduled.

Heck, it was a wild ride even here in Earthquakes country when the Pelé-era Cosmos came to visit, and didn't really subside much in the few years after Pelé retired. :D

I visited this site and it has a spot to enter your zip code for upcoming dates by area. I entered my current zip code here in Arizona and my former San Jose zip code and the movie doesn't appear to be playing anytime soon in either. Hopefully this website is wrong. I would love to see this movie!
