View Full Version : Is Ribery the ANSWER???

Judging from Ribery's first (although brief) performance against Mexico, he may be the spark in France's attack to reignite some creativity for the team.
France's movement and style going forward has been STALE for too long. With Sagnol and Abidal sticking to their current wingback postions and someone other than Cisse partnering up front France may be able to get the momentum it needs to start scoring goals again.
Ribery was the most dangerous attacker on the field and had he played in the first half along side Zidane, Vieira and Trezeguet things could have been pretty exciting.
If France insists on playing with 2 defensive mids then its essential to bring something extra to the attacking formation or else France will continue to struggle against teams that are content to sit back and absorb the pressure and then counter-attack.

Things seem to continue to point to Yes. I think Domenech is coming around too. Not putting Vikash in for Zidane was huge.

could Domenech actually be getting *gasp* "good" at managing this team? :D

Dunno, Let's say I'm sure some of the other good French managers could have made a better job...Anyway, I think he's making a decent preparation so far for les Bleus and he's smart to understand that this was one of the main reasons of our past failures.
As I already said, there's nothing I want more than feeling like an idiot if Ray finally wins the trophy ! ;)

did anyone see the banner that TF1 did a closeup of just as i was turning off the TV? it said something about ribery and either OM or OL, but i didn't get a good look.

I hate to say but I think France may be a more effective and lively side with Ribery in for Zidane. The guy has huge potential.
But hopefully Zidane will give us something else to remember him by in his last Major International Tournament

Yeah Stretch that's my take on it as well.

I think it was something like "Francky l'OM a besoin de toi"

not starting? i beg to differ, reports say he'll start against switz.
but the question to which he's the answer is malouda's undisclosed injury. ribéry is the kind of explosive player who makes a terrific substitute; as a starter i'm afraid he'll be less effective.

That's what I think too. I'm also afraid of him being sent off...Which is less likely when he's a supersub.
*edit*
One of the positive aspects is that the Swiss haven't played against him yet...

no, he'll be a good little boy. you can see he's still a little awed personally, if not tactically on the field. he'll see no biscotte!
still, it's one thing to play like a little firefly when you're the only pair of fresh legs on the pitch, quite another to go 90'.
i'm not saying he can't play a whole match; he's known for fitness, and being strong right to the end. but it's the difference in freshness that's made him look like gold plated dynamite in his outings in blue so far.

The reason he looks like "gold plated dynamite" an expression I've so often stole, is because he is gold plated dynamite. The pace you see from him in minute 70 when he's subbed in is the same pace you see from the guy in minute 70 when he starts. He's got an amazing motor Ribery!

You may be right about the youngster's ability to play dynamite football for 90 minutes but what I think seems positive is that whereas Malouda gets on well with Abidal for obvious reasons, Ribery really tries to build up attacks with Zidane and Henry, therefore it provides more pace at the front, not in the midfield. His ability to defend is all right for me as long as he doesn't get too much pressure and loses his nerves, but he will listen hard to ZZ's guidelines on the pitch, imo. On the right flank, Wiltord can be impressive and utterly efficient. I am only concerned with his ability to communicate on the pitch with vieira and vieira's form (of course)....but the team looks pretty good to me on paper, far better than with no one to back up vieira on the right.
