View Full Version : Indirect Free Kick Ruling

Does the first touch on an indirect free kick have move the ball by one revolution, or can it simply be a touch? I've seen quite a few freekicks taken in our youth league where the first player just steps on the ball, and the second player fires a shot on goal. I don't see this addressed specifically in any rule book, all it says is that an indirect kick needs to touch a second player before going into the goal.

Thanks

The rule was changed. A full revolution of the ball is the old standard. It is NOT required any longer. Now, a simple touch is sufficient.

(if i'm not mistaken, the exceptions are that the kickoff must still roll forward before it can be played a second time, and of course the goal kick needs to leave the penalty area before a second touch).

Actually all defensive kicks within the PA must leave the PA before being played again, and no player on any restart can do a double-touch. Lot easier to think of it that way :)

One exception. Remember it, or should I drop a hint? ;)
