Day TWO
Tuesday - May 24, 2006
At least Andy's cell phone alarm clock works. Of course, we didn't need to rely on it because Andy was already stirring around and pecking his keyboard before 6:00 AM! We decided to field test our World Cup travel clothes, so we decided not to bathe for the drive back home. I put on yesterday's work outfit, and we headed to the continental breakfast. Waffles and hard boiled eggs for me! Yippy. I filled my Mickey Ds coffee cup for the road trip and snagged a bagel.
I started the drive with Andy in the co-pilot seat. We're back on the road again. Another bright sunny day. I had scoped out the cheapest gas station between St. Louis and Nashville on the way in, so we stopped there to fill up the tank (I musta calculated things fairly well since the "low gas" warning light chimed in about 10 miles before the gas stop).
We loaded up with more snacks, switched driving positions, and headed out again. Spent nearly three hours BSing (no, that does not refer to BigSoccer) about our roles for the remaining two Send Off matches and what we should expect during the World Cup in Germany. Chaos should rule supreme for these two Yellow Card Journalism bloggers.
We made a final pit stop about 50 miles out from St. Louis to allow me the pleasure of driving through the city traffic (which wasn't bad around Noon). We landed at my house where Andy's father was waiting on my front porch. A quick exchange of trunk contents, and they were off to try to beat the rush hour fun in K.C. I got back into the car to track down a few little photo goodies I will need in Cleveland (my flight leaves tomorrow morning at 6:30 AM, and I have to return the Budget rental at 5:00).
It's 7:30 PM. I've got to go pick up a Kinko's order of YCJ business cards for my Cup travels. I have lots of photos to cull and delete from last night. I've got camera equipment to clean from last night. I've got to repack everything for the dual flights to Cleveland and East Hartford. I've gotta get reacquainted with my lovely wife before leaving home for another five days. All this before I can sleep.
Ahhh. Memories of Utrecht. How sweet it is.
