...for US. Not Wigan, not Bolton, but US! What the f? Where the he-ll did we get the money? Good news...but will we still get a defender or two? I just hope we don't end up selling someone (Cahill, Arteta, Yobo) in order to afford him. (I sound like Sara...haha!) ;)

I don't care if it was overpriced, he's a damn good player and I'm glad we weren't shown up by freaking Wigan.

Oooo get you.
He hasnt signed for anyone yet though. Still think he will sign for Everton though.
Some might say you were made for each other. ;)

OMG! If this really goes thru that'll be freakin' incredible. There were lots of reports that he wanted to sign for us, but I never thought we'd pony up the cash and/or he would not just grab the extra $$ from some other squad.
If Moyes and the board have thrown down the wallet for him, then at least they have made a bold move. Whether he is objectively worth the fee may be debateable, but if it is what the market demands then there it is; and at least they have *tried*. This is better than losing out to every other team like last summer/winter.
Like chifirefan said, I hope there's enough left in the bank for some defenders (and I hope we don't lose Cahill).

Johnson certainly has racked up some impressive numbers the last few seasons.
But haven't a lot of his goals been PK's?

So what does this move tell us?
1) Someone up top - be it Davie, Bill or the Board - is finally showing some initiative. Whether there will be further financial backing remains to be seen.
Deux) We'll be playing 4-4-2 as often as possible next season. You don't sink £15m or so into two forwards and only play one up top.
III) McFadden needs to get used to playing on the wing or coming off the bench. Moyes has his pace/power combo up top with AJ and Beattie (who are good buddies, if reports are to be believed), so PT will be scarce for McFadden, Anichebe and other forwards.
Fo') Howard won't have to be a hero in net every match. Everton scoring two goals in a match might happen more often than once in a blue moon.

He's still gotta agree to personal terms. It's nice to see something happening for us, though!

now all you have to do is switch to an attacking style so your chances of getting penalties become higher

Great!
We should get Robert Huth on loan then. Cheap. Probably good and he wants to come to a place where he'd get playing time.

I really don't like the signing. Once again we are overpaying for an English striker, and sinking a lot of money into one player.
I miss some creativity in the transfer market, as we seem to go after English players (Beattie, Davies, Neville) who are relatively safe but pricey, or very established Internationals (Valente, Van der Meyde). When we take chances on younger players like Kroldrup and Yobo we still end up with large transfer fees (4 for Yobo, and I don't want to think about what Kroldrup cost).
Every summer we are linked to lots of players at the start of the summer some way above our pulling power (Guti), and then scramble as we miss on our targets (resigning Pistone, signing the injured Van der Meyde).
If we had the finger on the pulse in the smaller leagues we could spread the money on more players with lesser wages. If one or two fail like Kroldrup, it's not a big deal, as one of the others might succeed, so we won't have to recycle old players (Stubbs).

One good news outaa this is that ive heard its only about 3.5m-4m this year and the same next with the rest as performance related.

He's not traditionally injury-prone, plus he's better than anything we could trot out there at the moment.
If he gets us at least 20 goals in all competitions, he's worth the money.

But he was out for 4 months last season...
Let's hope our bad luck with injuries doesn't continue next season.

IIRC, he missed on Birmingham City's final PK when we played them in the League Cup a few years back, no? Not that it really matters, I just had to bring that up. :D

He is. With him and Beattie up front, you'll have one of the nicest strike forces in the EPL. Once Simon Jordan agreed to sell him, it was either you (Beattie is his bets friend) all or Arsenal (his favorite club as a kid) that were going to get him.
Relax, with that strike force and your solid mid field, all you need is a good defender signed on a free and you may actually suprise a hell of a lot of teams this year.
