I think its about that time again to start another transfer thread. With the season already done with all we really have now to turn to is what do we get our hands on in the summer before next term to try and repeat as Bundesliga double champs and make a bigger dent into the CL. Here are some BRAND SPANKING NEW ARTICLES ON PODOLSKI!!!

Cologne striker keen on 10m Euro Bayern Munich move
5/26/2006
Lukas Podolski is hoping that he can seal a move to Bayern before the start of the World Cup. Big things are expected of the 20-year-old striker after he was named in the German squad for the tournament which they kick off on June 9. His current club side Cologne were relegated from the Bundesliga last season and he is a top target for Bayern Munich, although they have yet to meet the 10m Euro (£6.86million) valuation of the player. "I enjoyed playing for Cologne but the second division would be a step back," said Podolski. "I am sure both sides will reach an agreement soon."

Bayern want Podolski decision before World Cup
MUNICH, Germany (AFP) - May 26, 2006
German champions Bayern Munich issued an ultimatum to relegated FC Cologne saying they want a decision on German international Lukas Podolski's future before the World Cup begins on June 9. Cologne want 10 million euros for shooting star Podolski but Bayern refuse to up their bid of 7.5 million euros and are considering looking elsewhere.

"A decision needs to be made before the opening World Cup game on June 9," Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in the Munich TZ newspaper. "We are waiting for an answer but will not wait forever. Lukas needs to know what is going on and have a clear head for the World Cup. We will sign a striker whatever happens. Either Podolski or someone else. We have some alternatives."

The 20-year-old Podolski, scorer of 10 goals in 22 internationals, has said he wants to join Bayern despite interest from Werder Bremen and SV Hamburg. Cologne's relegation from the top-flight is likely to speed up his exit and the German club would rather do business this summer as a get-out clause makes Podolski available for just one million euros in June 2007.

I knew something stupid like this would come up. I didn't think that Bayern would have that tight of arse holes!!! If it was atleast an 8 million bid I might understand but Karl isn't any close to 10!!! I don't see where Bayern will find that young and talented of a striker as Podolski for 10 million euro. Look at Aguero, he has 20 million price tag. what the fock is karl thinking?? give up the cash and get him, we aren't paying for Ze Roberto or Ballack so we can easily throw that money at Cologne. Yes they aren't currently one of the best clubs in Germany but they are one of the more popular ones.

I believe you might have mistaken him for Metzelder.

Jansen and Meretesacker are really the only half decent guys to play defense in the Bundesliga. We already have the best in Lahm, I think Jansen and Mertesacker would really help us out especially with them being so young, they would be our backs for the future. But who knows we probably won't get either. I think its known that Mertesacker doesn't like to tackle anyone anyways so I don't know about wanting him more than Jansen

Jansen can play all positions on the left side. Most people think the left midfield is his best position.

Indeed it is cheap behaviour of KHR to wine about a difference of 2.5 million bucks when he just saved buckets of money on Zé and Ballack. Franz Beckenbauer said last week in TV that the amount Cologne requests for Podolski is such peanuts he can pay it out of his own pocket. Just gotta love him for statements like these :)

It's all about negotiating. Personally I've always been proud that Bayern are fiscally responsible and not overpaying for players is part of it. Bayern knows Cologne must sell Podolski and Bayern knows Podolski only wants to play for Bayern. So why not put the screws to Cologne when in such a favorable bargaining position. We can smoke them out.

DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME WE PUT A DEADLINE DATE ON A DEAL???? BALLACK!!!! thats what happened, we gave him a deadline and then took it off the table letting everybody and their mammas go after him. we didn't even offer him anything after that last offer back last year before winter break. i just get p!ssed with these dates. i don't see why they wouldn't want to negotiate after the WC too, Podolski could get injured during the WC so why by him now anyways, but who knows whats goin on right now. maybe bayern management knows but thatd be it, they are too predictable this past two years in not spending money when they should and spending money when they shouldn't.

I agree with this (at least from his performaces this year with 'gladbach). His best performaces this year have come at left mid or left forward.

Jansen would be a great buy for you guys IMO, especially with ZeRo leaving.

My only gripe with the Ballack negotiations was not selling him last summer. Ballack strung them along and of course they were eventually going to ask for a drop dead date. It should've been last July and not October or whenever it was.

As for not spending money, I think Bayern has a big problem with the perception of Germany and the Bundesliga as both being well out of fashion in comparison to Italy, Spain, and England. Money is not going to change it with a player with options. We saw this with Tevez and Aguerro. And a player without options is probably the type that Bayern doesn't want. So no point in chasing good money after bad. Until the Hertha's, Dortmunds, and Hamburg's get their collective acts together and exploit their markets to become contintental powers, Bayern will be punished.

I would agree that this is all about negotiation, if I recall correctly Makaay did not come until after the season had actually started or was close to starting due to lengthy negotiations. In terms of Martesacker and Jansen I have been more impressed with Jansen but I think Martesacker fits our needs better, CB.

I think I would actually be fairly satisfied with the possibility of Podolski, Jansen, and Mertesacker. Yes it would be Bayern poaching again, BUT if I remember correctly Borussia Monchengladbach (Jansen) and Hannover 96 (Mertesacker) aren't really going anywhere anytime soon other than mediocre to bottom of the table. There is no way either of those clubs are gonna even compete with the big boys of the Bundesliga. Podolski will be young star striker brought in. Jansen would be a young left side midfielder we could really use with the exit of Ze Roberto. And Mertesacker is a good young CB that would help lead to competition even though I don't like how he doesn't tackle but he'd be good in the back for us. I actually like these three names because they are all YOUNG and very talented with a ton of POTENTIAL in all three of them.

My humble opinion as a newbie, but Poldi is a must, and Martesacker and Jensen inject needed young talent. This may be wishful thinking but Martesacker (we definitely need a CB) to strenghten defense and Jansen present an additional benefit (with Jansen) of letting Basti play as attacking MD, to replace Ballack. Once again wishful thinking, but the possibility of...
Kahn
Sagnol Lucio Martesacker Lahm
Diesler (if fit, or Brazzo) Demichellis Jansen
Basti
Makaay Poldi
Is certainly enticing, I'd roll the dice with this side against the big boys in Europe
