van buytens coming, so lets hope he'll do well. come to think of it, bayer spent about 20 million on new players this year, which is quite a bit more than last year.
i still dont really understand why the management is so focused on young players (yea, they got van buyten, i know) but still, big names and young players arent mutually exclusive. cant they make a mix. they integrate a player from their youth team nearly every year anyway, so i really dont understand wy they have to back off so far from that idea of big (or at least bigger than usual) names. to me this sounds like some big excuse for not having the balls:p to at least try to go after one of these players. it worked with makaay after all...
and i guess this is it for this transfer period. i still remember when everybody was saying this would be one of the most interesting tranfer windows in a long time...

yeah...I always like to think that management has something up their sleeve, but alas, probably more of the same.

Ok, until now Bayern got 4 players:
Van Buyten: Hamburger SV
Lell (loaned out), Podolski: 1. FC Köln
Stephan Fürstner: FC Bayern 2
I haven't seen Stephan Fürstner playing yet, but they say he is a good talent (Midfield). Against New York he was the best man on the pitch (yes I know FC Bayern was in holidays, but anyway :)).

Well it is official, they snuck the deal in over night. Van Buyten is officially with Bayern.
Bayern snap up van Buyten
9 Jun 2006
Bayern Munich have signed Belgium defender Daniel van Buyten from Hamburg. The Bundesliga champions are reported to have agreed a fee of around around €10 million (£7 million) for the AOL Arena man. The 28-year-old was a rock at the back as Hamburg finished third in the league last season, and has consequently commanded a record fee for the club. The previous highest HSV transfer fee was €8.5 million (£6 million) from Lazio for now Hamburg coach Thomas Doll in 1991. Van Buyten made 36 starts in the club's Bundesliga and Uefa Cup campaigns last term, chipping in with four goals, but looks to have been replaced already at the AOL Arena. Rothosen are reported to have agreed a deal for 20-year-old Anderlecht defender Vincent Kompany.

So...Ismael on the bench, I assume. Unless he's sold.

Brilliant, I love Van Buyten's never say die attitude, he's gonna scare the shit out of some attackers.

I agree with ForeverRed, Van Buyten is a beast. He + a screaming mad Lucio = nightmares for our opposition :D

plus Lahm+Sagnol=drool
I don't know what we do with Ismael other than have him as a very good sub. I wouldn't want to get rid of him because we need a backup, but he is too good to be a sub though. Sort of a good dilemma we have with our backline.

So the interesting question is...
With Van Buyten coming to Munich from Hamburg
AND
Kompany going to Hamburg from Anderlecht to replace him... LINK (http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=393687&CPID=22&clid=161&lid=9&title=Hamburg+seal+Kompany+switch)
... did Munich ever take a stab at Vincent Kompany? I know several mentioned him over the course of the last year as a potential CB for Munich. Many were convinced he is the NEXT thing at CB.
I guess the REAL question will be... did Bayern take the right guy? or did we just hand Hamburg another key to their successful offseason transfer strategy?

If it is true about lots of Juventus players wanting to leave I think Bayern should go after Trezeguet. He is a better version of Roy Makaay. BTW how old is he?

From what I understand, DVB is a rock at CB, a real presence, while Kompany is a quick and somewhat lean CB, like Lucio or Ismael. Bayern needed a rock. Not saying one's better than the other.
Someone correct me if I'm mistaken.

DVB is no doubt a bone crusher. I don't discredit his ability to threaten opponents. His signing will make things interesting at Bayern. Looking forward to seeing how it all works out.
I wouldn't know about Kompany, but his age was one thing that was perhaps a negative for me. At 22, you had better be damn good, because experience at Center Back is awfully important!
Van Buyten is the Fabio of Center Backs though isn't he? Gives Santa Cruz a run for sexiest hair, no? haha... the REAL question will be: the wife? ;)

yes, van buyten was a good buy. kompany is van buytens height, but he is not as massive as DvB.
its weird, i was never really for signing van buyten (i was not really opposed either), but since he was signed i have come to like the idea of him in bayerns defense more and more...

Next big thing? Kompany played really human in the last two years, don't hype him all time. He is a talent not a ready player, so the HSV may have luck with him, but maybe they don't
