Nice piece comparing the two, and the influence of MLS. Nothing new to BSers, but plenty new to average NPR listener.
McBride:
High school star, All-Am in college, drafted at 22 into MLS, "When I started, each TEAM had 15 new pros" (as opposed to a couple each year). Now off to Europe.
In contrast, EJ at 22 already has 5 years as MLS pro. Although he knows that he eventually would like to go to Europe and WC is his chance to shine.
Some reference to EJ being having been unusual as a black player who chose soccer over pointyball and orangeball.
Best quote: EJ on reaction of friends to his showing off ball juggling with basketball during pickup games in the 'hood.
"Man, that's a basketball. Go kick that other ball with those little white boys."
Perhaps someone with more technical skill than me can find link on NPR site.
