It will be a very exiting off-season for Werder fans and there are some questions that come to my mind:

Some of our guys will be at the World Cup.
Will Klinsmann and Löw come to their senses and have Boro as a starter for Germany instead of Schneider or Schweinsteiger at the WC??

Is Klose going to be the type of player for the National Team that he is for Werder?

Will Valdez start for Paraguay and Klasnic for Croatia?

But there are also some other issues:

Will Le Chef decide against Bordeaux and stay for at least one more year?

How will the new players like Fritz, Wome and Diego effect Werder in the upcoming season? Are they going to be an impact or are they going to fail?

Who's going to start in goal? Tim Wiese or Andi Reinke who has recovered from his injury?

What about the plans for a new stadium? Do you like the Weserstadion as it is right now or are you waiting for a new 50000-seat soccer-only arena with a sponsor name?

let's discuss!

No new arena, the Weserstadium as an all-seater with 50000 seats. :)

New stadium? I haven't heard anything about this. I thought they were planning on expanding the Weser.

I think Klasnić should start for Croatia, although it will be he or Ivica Olić (from CSKA Moscow) who will play with Pršo. But Klasnić started to score for Croatia, last 2 friendly games, he scored one against Argentina and 2 against Austria. In both games he was in first 11, but in first game it was expected cous Olić was injured for a long time. Probably he has slight advantage ahead of Olić and if he keeps scoring I think he will be regular in first 11 at WC. I think he desreves this.

But will Klasnić stay in Werder? Will he go in HSV or somewhere else?
One more question. How was Jurica Vranješ in Werder? I dont have faith in him, even he is a sub I think we had better options than he is for NT.

Looks like you guys are also gonna take a chance on Metzelder. If he has a pretty good world cup and stays healthy for you guys he will be a great defender, but the big if is IF he can stay healthy.

New in the way that it will be expanded and modernized. With a sponsor name most likely.

If he has a good world cup there will be more than just Werder chasing him.

Right, I'm with you.

I think it needs to happen. Werder has grown as a club so much in the last decade. To continually attract to players, the club needs top facilities and a large source of income (i.e. big crowds).

Yes, something has to be done,
last season Werder had the
6th smallest stadium in the Bundesliga.

Werder´s plan is to rebuild the Weserstadion
to a "real" football stadium (without running track)
with a capacity of more than 50000.
This would be the best stadium in the Bundesliga
(sure, others are more modern, but we kept our tradition).

From the inside it could look like this:

The whole idea looks great. But if you look deeper, I wonder what's good for expanding into a 50+ thousand stadium if your attendance is amongst the lowest in top BuLi teams. Bremen's attendance was 7% short of full attendance capacity last season.

"Bremen's attendance was 7% short of full attendance capacity last season."

Just because the teams playing in Bremen weren't able to sell all tickets. Most of the fans are just tourists who want to visit the new stadia, not an old stadium like the Weserstadion.
Nevertheless, Werder could 1) get more Bremen fans into the stadium and 2) sell more season tickets in order to earn more money. Who cares about the ********ing tourists from the other teams? :P

Numbers are just one way of indications. It may not tell everything.

Well if it was the visitors who were the cause for diluting the pool, then you have good reasons to go full steam ahead expanding the stadium. And the new model looks impressive!

Looks like someone forgot what it was like to see a game in the Munchener Olympiastadion. :D

A new refurbished stadium, plus continued results will lead to more people coming in. Werder are attracting a lot of fans due to their attacking flair style.

exactly, we have had Olympiastadion for the longest time so there is no reason to try and compare numbers and everything. without the track and Bremen's stadium it will be a much more friendlier venue to watch a match. fans love being close to the action, when you are behind the goal, there is a difference between paying alot of money and sitting 10 yards away from the pitch or sitting behind the track thats behind the goal and paying to be 20-30 yards away from the pitch. big difference! bremen has definately attracted many fans the past several years and are looking to be a club to stay at the top of the bundesliga for a while, they will not be a one and done club. and the way they are reloading after this past term they will be going for the title, and instead of losing to a club like juventus they will now be able to get by them to atleast the next round. they are a club on the up and up.

The biggest problem I see in these lists is the attendances of Schalke and Hamburg. They are close rivals in the league and have significantly higher attendances, allowing them to spend more on transfers and wages. This places more pressure on Schaaf and Allofs to keep coming up with excellent players for relatively small fees.

If Werder can sell more tickets they should definately expand to keep the club progressing as it is.

But don't forget that the expansion probably won't happen before 2008 (long summer break caused by EURO 2008). So Werder will be at a disadvantage for another two years.
