trying to keep him against his will is not a good idea... He really wants to play for werder, his heart is already there.
Maybe his body soon will be in Fishtown, his heart will always be red!

Yeah right. I didn't make sense to develop him the first place, right? But I guess us Hanoverians are just mistaking arrogance with Bremen's winner genes...
Sure, it´s not nice of Allofs to say it like this.
But it´s a fact, that it would be not unclever
for Hannover to sell Mertesacker this year,
(if 96 finds a follower for him)
because of the clause in Mertes contract.

Actually, not quite: Merte doesn't get a lot of money in hanover now (we offered to give him more money and put the clause out of the contract but he refused). Let's say he gets 1.5 million € per year. To find a good follower for him we do need some money, let's say at least 3 million € for the club the follower plays at and another 2.5 million € salary. Let's say we get 4.5 million € by Bremen now, 4.5+1.5=6
6-5.5=.5 million e as a win
opposed to 1.5-1.5=0 if we keep him for one more year. That means we either have Mertesacker for one year or we get another defender, whih is A a greater risk because he may not be do well in our team and B likely not as good as Mertesacker and make half a million profit. I know what I would do.

If you want to hold on to a rising star, you need to handle the situation much better... he was only offerd a better contract when he already made a decision to play somewhere else... the team is not competitive in any cups (of course except DFB cup) and doesn't look like improving very much this year. I could understand if you say that and hannover is in UEFA-cup... but these days players don't want to waste years. Furthermore, Werder develops young players very well, which i am sure merte knows.

Off course Merte wants to go to develop (and that offer is really old, long before he played with the NT), but Merte said that almost nothing would make him give up that clause. I am by no means the biggest fan of Hanovers transfer policy, but we aren't that stupid.
The fact that remains is that Allofs' statements didn't boost Werder's popularity in Hanover (I even read by some Bremen fans that it was really stupid). I mean with those remarks you won't convince Merte because he is allready convinced and you won't convince the Hanoverian leadership because that would be like blackmail.

Where the hell do they keep getting the money from????
This is a club that hasn't won a major trophy in years yet keeps spending these on these overpriced players......

Years? Inter won the Coppa Italia 2 years in a row, and won the scudetto last year.
Massimo Moratti Loves his team... that's where the money comes from.
