Quote from Jack Bell's weekly soccer report in today's NY Times:
... "M.L.S. will probably announce Cleveland or St. Louis as an expansion team, the league's 14th team, during a conference call today."

All that happened is they give the owner of the Oakland A's three years to build a stadium and get a team in it. We were never in the running for '07. It may be a three team race for '08 between on Cleveland, Milwaukee, and St. Louis.
But then you have Rowan in '09? As a friend of mine was fond of saying "that's a lot"

In addition to those stronger 4....
Not to mention a MLS desired second NY possibility ('10 and beyond), Vancouver's projected stadium completion around that time, and the ever-present possibility of a second team in Chicago.

"So let's move beyond the real MLS agenda and hail this latest bait-and-switch for its historical import, which is this:
"This is the fifth version of the Earthquakes, at least as far as we know. There were the originals, in the North American Soccer League. Then the NASL Indoor Earthquakes, then the American Soccer League Earthquakes, then the MLS Earthquakes, and now MLS Earthquakes II"
Above quote from article in today's San Francisco Cronicle.
