View Full Version : Di Canio deal finally going through?....

Seems there is some interest in wrestling Paulo away from West Ham again, now that Yorke is out of the picture...
I'd personally love to see the Italian join the side, although I am a bit wary of his age....But to be honest, I love his exuberence and passion as well as creativity...He reminds me of a certain Frenchman(#7)......
Any thoughts?

I would see us using him sparingly in League matches. He would fit very well in the "slot" position in the Fergie 4-4-1-1 Euro formation. That's what we would buy him for really....

I think Giggs will probably move into that role this season, he seemed more at ease playing there than Scholes did plus that makes room in the mid. Paulo is a firey player, but with the lone addition of Rio and the overall at ease and composed make up of the squad (el Capitan excluded, of course), maybe bringing him in would add too much volatility to the squad? Given his track record, he no doubt will not be pleased being the 3rd or 4th choice up top.

Screw that 4-4-1-1 crap. It doesn't work. Not with Man U, anyway.

I don't want to see di Canio come. While he still is quality and would add depth to the squad, I would rather see some of our younger kids be given a chance. I think Fortune could become a good player, especially out wide if Giggs is going to play more up top.
We haven't really seen the kids come up through the youth system and be given a chance in the first team since the era of Becks, Scholes, the Neville brothers, Nicky Butt, and the like. I really think that United should give some of the kids a bigger chance to prove themselves in order to build for the future without having to buy big name players to fill in the gaps every year. I'm not saying that we should stop trying to bring in big-name players, but we should try and balance out the transfers of big-name players coming in with players that have come through the system a bit better.

Di Canio is dodgy and doesn't have the mental strength to be a man utd player. He only seems to shine against lower clubs(than west ham) - rarely against bigger clubs.

They switched back to a more traditional 4-4-2 in the latter stages of the CL, after they got pummeled a few times with the 4-4-1-1.

IIRC, we primarily played the 4-4-1-1 in the Euro Away matches. So, it would stand to reason that it didn't fair as well as the 4-4-2 since we played that at home. Besides, as big part of the problem with the 4-4-1-1 was the fact that Veron and Scholes both had a drop in their expected form.
