He is the best defender in England. Yeah I said it. ******** John Terry, You wont see Rio getting outran by Henry.
Anyhow, he deserves his own thread, and personally I feel hegets slated unneccessarily. For one look at what Franco Baresi had to say about him:
Baresi knocks Ferdinand
Milan legend Franco Baresi believes that Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is too flashy to be a great defender. “Ferdinand has too much regard for himself and plays as though he is looking at himself in the mirror,” said the three-times European Cup winner. “It is all very well to be elegant and to look good on the ball but you need to be aggressive and dependable, a really solid presence when you are in defence. Ferdinand doesn't generate that sense of security and trust. He is responsible for conceding too many goals.”
This is bullshit. Why wouldnt he say this about Allessandro Nesta?
For all those fans who talk about him and generalize because he has cornrows, ******** you.
For the fans who hate him because he makes it look easier than getting ya mama's number, ******** you.
To FIFA for banning him for 8 months, though he tested negative for any drugs, and only banning cokeheads like Mutu and Stam, then not even banning Cannavaro for using Nandroline (banned substance).. big ******** you.

It was good he started scoring(not just own goals) this season ,lets hope he gets more next season. Also he gets a lot of criticism for looking relaxed which I would defend him against, but at that Joga event I swear he was wearing an oversized red cardigan, and theres just no excuse for that.

Rio was a great defender but since his enforced sabbatical he really hasn't been the same player at all.
Terry is currently a better player than Rio and in better form - to suggest otherwise shows a lack of footballing knowledge.

He took the drug test? How long after he missed his scheduled test?
then not even banning Cannavaro for using Nandroline (banned substance)..
When did he use that?

He took the drug test? How long after he missed his scheduled test? IIRC, one day after.
When did he use that?
Before the UEFA cup final he played in IIRC. Or some important match, it was recorded on video. This was reported a while back though.

The opinions expressed by followers of the great Manchester United is quite lame. And yet, you choose to spend your time here. Weird.
Anyway, our back 4 (with all it's incarnations) plus the introduction of VdS was one of the major strengths of our campaign this season. Rio's style is adaptable to Wes, to Vidic, even to Tweety playing next to him and that allows us a great flexibility in our defense. I think Rio's cornerstone role in our success can be best understood if we look at how our defense suffered during his suspension.
I don't watch Terry enough to know how they compare, but it would be interesting to see if he has Rio's adaptability and leadership in addition to his other qualities.

I thought that was another drug, which was legal. (albiet that still wasn't pleasant to see... I'm sure most big clubs do that sort of thing) You may have the nandro thing confused because it was probably one of the things Juve was accused of using in the 90s... lord knows how they got away with all that. $$$$$$ just like their cheating today I guess

Whenever I see the words "England's" and "best defender" I always think Carragher. But that's just me.

I don't watch Carragher and Terry as much as Ferdinand (obviously), so it makes me wonder: Do either of those two have the occassional lapses that Ferdinand does? In the limited times I've watched those two, they both have looked solid, albeit not as versatile as Ferdinand.

Carragher ?????? wtf now i know you have a small thing for the dippers but that's taking to far!
Any of you ever hear Carragher speak ? He sounds like a dog !

Terry doesnt.
Carragher gets skined even when trying his best. He gets skinned my championship players, low rate Eastern European players you name it. He certainly isnt on Ferdinands level. Carragher is one of those defenders who 'just gets the job done'. Doesnt matter how to him, he just does it, and occasionally fails. He cannot play the ball out the back very well, and is a pretty dumb and predictable defender who would be roasted by Europes best attackers. He is also a hack and if he went to another European league, wouldnt be as successful because he gets away with a lot of fouls that should be called.
Think Liverpool vs. Luton. 2 of Luton's three goals were as a reult of Carragher being rosted by a crap attacker.

I swear I cannot understand a single word he says. He needs to add some bass to his voice as well. The tone or pitch of his voice is a bit feminin.
Atleast I can understand Gerrard or Rooney, but this guy is too far gone.
