He makes a few observations of the usual, "In England .... but in America ... variety."
You have to give him props for sticking up for the USA though.
What stood out most to me is how the writer (and journalists in England generally) consider Convey to be a young talent. For BigSoccer regulars, he's an 8-year veteran. I guess it gives you some perspective.
I guess for the average English viewer, Convey is more a contemporary of Theo Walcott and Aaron Lennon than McBride and Lewis.

That's not necessarily a good thing. He's a talent, sure- and a good one at that... But if more English fans realized that he's an 8 year pro, maybe they would expect more of him at this point? Just playing the devil's advocate here...

No. They would consider the MLS about on par with a big club's youth academy training. (I don't agree--just stating that that is what they would argue.)

This is the worst case of circular reasoning . . .ever. You do realize that, on average, European players begin pro-style ball at a much, much younger age than most Americans.
