Forget about his pricetag. Is he the man above all others for the job of filling our central midfield woes?

Remember price is not part of this poser. Purely on a playing level is he 'the one' we need?

Vote. Discuss. Party. Chill out.

Whenever I have seen him play, he does look like THE man for THE job.
He's a tough hard tackling player who can pass the ball really well.
I've been reading the official Lyon site a lot and those guys really love "Djilla".

Your poll options are skewed as you obviously have big doubts about him.
You have 2 options in the middle which mean the same thing , i.e. "I dont care".

In the real world money does matter.

In United's situation money must always be an objective. I really think Diarra would be perfect for United, but if Lyon demand £30m for him then we would have to bow out.

The only positive option says that money is no objective. There should be an option like "Yes, Ww should get him as long as the fee is right".

Don't you drag me thread down with logic an sense. Thank you very much.

From a pure player's perspective, he probably could, however we all know that alone won't get the job done at a club like United. We've seen players come and go, all very good in their own, but if they aren't committed to the club, if they aren't willing to sweat blood for the club and ooze United as well as inspire those around him, they're not worth it.

My main concern isn't if he'll be able to tackle, pick out players, etc like the way he did at Lyon, my main concern however, is if he's willing to adapt to the team spirit, will he show the same kind of devotion Smudger has done? Will he step up and inspire those around him when the time arrives?

Right, if we forget the fee and pretend we're Chelsea (shiver :( ) then I will explain my reasoning (I already edited my first post with this).

They laugh at Chelsea paying out so much for Essien, when it was Diarra who was the heir to Makelele.

Hey DS, can you add the option that he could be the man, but so could others?

Just to add that all the options that have been put forward for DM look like they are risks.

Makoun dissapointed me when I watched the game that Fergie went to see him play in. Did not get involved enough although he is very good at retaining possession.
Mascherano is hyped a lot but do we know he can play in England when other SA players have failed?
Carrick is a great player but he's not the tough tackling player United need.

Diarra is the option with least risk for the DM role.
The only risk with Diarra is that we will be screwed in the fee by Lyon. But if you take that out of the equation then I have no doubts. As long as Diarra really wants to play for United, and not Madrid, then he is THE MAN.

I want Carrick...Premiership tested and approved.

Diarra could do it, but Carrick is THE man for THE job.

Which is why the two choices you put in the middle basically translate into "I don't really care." ;) :D

I just don't think we are looking for THE man for this team in filling this position. We already have the likes of Rooney and Rio, plus CRon, for the guys that are going to be our PTP'ers, with the first two providing the leadership for our side. The guy we bring in to fill our midfield void will be nothing more than a glorified mercenary, IMHO, and I happen to think there are a few that could do good jobs of a varying degree.

I don't think anybody can say for sure that this guy is the answer. We seem to do better picking up players on the cusp of greatness and taking them to the next level...
