Cold Pizza is just a sports talk show on ESPN.
I will summarize what he says.

This could be one of the worst interviews I have ever seen. Why the hell do we care about them answering general sports trivia questions?

donovan, dempsey, mastroeni
donovan: on the gatorade slogan "it's a whole new ballgame"...it's cool that a company is sponsoring us. The baseball themed song on the commercial gave him chills watching it.
mastroeni: more expectations for the team than 2002. Maintain the level at the WC from the last one. Youth/experience mix.
dempsey: advice from veterans, not that much. biggest worry is his first touch on the field. Nerves go away on that.
donovan: don't be nervous.
donovan: on dempsey and pablo's musical skills. Dempsey the rapper, pablo is mellow.
dempsey: on freestyle rap, something he likes to do.
mastroeni: did a tribute song on landon when he had the bleach blond hair. (Joke) It's one of landon's top 2 fave CDs.
sports trivia (landon. what to we get if we win?)
1) barry tied babe...how many homers? pablo...713, landon...how many legit? I think 714
2) NBA MVP? (ALL)...steve nash
3) Preakness winner? (ALL) we're training, we don't watch that.
4) #1 in NFL Draft? Landon...Mario. Pablo you went to NC State and didn't know that (on a personal note...I went to NC state too)
the end...rather boring and nothing new from the interview.

the general sports fans that the show is geared towards probably care?
anyway - I thought the interview was well done. Someone taught our guys how to interact with the media because it's actually rare for athletes to do anything more than simply answer the questions. Our players actually hold conversations with the interviewer and you ge a bit of an idea of the sense of humor style and intelligence levels of the athletes.

Must it always be so freakin' negative!! It was a fun interview. It shows the general sports public that soccer players are not total geeks or something. Sheesh. Trying to get people to know our players' personalities and thus root for the good guys.
edit** I thought it was amusing when she was trying to get Clint to sing. "Hey, I just woke up. I need music." Then they play music (lame music) and he still won't do it.
I remember Pablo's song about LD - then at the end of it, he kicks Landon's bobblehead off the table. It was pretty funny.

a) There are no fans of Cold Pizza. It draws ratings worse than test patterns and loses millions of dollars for ESPN.
b) The interview was awkward and idiotic. If that's the best they can do, I'd rather not see the guys on TV.
Can you imagine any other athlete during an interview being subjected to answering general sports trivia questions because the anchor can't get them to freestyle rap? How about asking about any of their opponents? Or the 10-day camp they just concluded. Or the Morocco game on their freaking network tomorrow night?

I don't generally watch CP, but I see athletes on the Hot List answering stuff not related to their sport all the time.
Relax. People need to see these guys in the media regardless of what they are talking about. Most people don't care about the camp, but they might latch onto a player as a personality and tune in Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

The Hot List isn't a feature show. It's a segment of ESPNews.
And you made the point for me -- how are general viewers supposed to latch on to a personality when our guys are standing there laughing akwardly at an awful interview? I'm supposed to walk away from that thinking "Man, that Clint Dempsey seems real friendly. Glad he totally begged off rapping to the crap music they provided. Man, that was a hoot! I think I'll tune in on June 12 and root hard."
It's not negative to expect some standards from an interviewer on a national program. That was brutal.

...because, as was already pointed out, the general sports fan (if anybody really is watching that show) don't really care about the 10-day camp or the friendly against Morocco. They care about football (american), basketball play-offs, maybe some baseball, ...but no soccer. So the goal, be it degrading or not, was to hopefully help some people realize that soccer players are not completely disconnected from the world and are a part of the American sports scene.
Like it or not, this is the position we are in. At least the USMNT is getting some airtime.

Excuse me? The Hot list is a three-hour show on ESPNNews that includes updates, interviews and analysis.

So you know the tastes and preferences of all non-soccer fans? Seriously, unbunch your panties because they stepped out of their comfort zone. It's not a crime.

Maybe it sucked ... to you. Maybe some people though it was funny. Maybe some people got a kick ot of it. Lighten up - life's too short.

They have actually had a soccer segment on CP (at least according to their online schedule) at least one day in each of the past three weeks. CP and Hot List do way more soccer than people realize.

Hey, if you and others are happy with that drivel because it was "coverage," don't let me spoil your fun. I guess I just have minimum standards higher than that.
And as I said, the Hot List is a segment of ESPNews. It's not a standalone show like Cold Pizza that exists on a network that actually is on basic cable systems. What was wrong with my original description of it?
