When a player gets fouled in the penalty box is that an assist if the guy that takes the penalti scores? Or is that a goal without an assist? What if the same guy guy fouled and scored the PK? Thanks.

More then often the referee gives a pretty damn good assist.

penalty kicks are unassisted goals, just like all free kicks.

no. assists are only earned from the run of play.

In my team satistics I considered a foul in the box and the pk as a goal scored by the taker and an assist to the player fouled. If the player fouled is the taker he gets the goal if he scored.

Our league did not keep assist stats. On assists the second assist is a bullshiit satisitic. The second assist is only a pass then lead to another pass. How is that an assist? Not in my eyes their not an assist it just a pass before a pass then lead to a goal.

Many times the penultimate pass is the one that splits open the defense and creates the opportunity, whereas the last pass can sometimes be less important.

Here is a recent example:

Barça's equalizer in the CL final.

Iniesta's through ball created the opportunity, Larsson put in a slight touch so that Eto'o could receive the ball a bit better. IMO, the most important pass was the first.

Differences of opinion (like above) is why an assist is the last pass made.

Larsson's pass was definately an assist. Sometimes the last pass made isn't an assist... the last pass has to be exceptional, or be followed imediately by a shot. Sometimes, the last pass is followed by an incredible amount of work by the forward... dribbling past several defenders for example... in those cases it shouldn't be (and isn't) considered an assist.

I know CM used to give the guy who was fouled an assist.
