Is buying SG cleats worth it? I already have a pair of Nike Mercurial Vapor FGs, they get pretty good grip, but would buying a second pair of SG cleats help out in wet conditions?

Yeah its worth it if you play in an area where it is prone to rain or if you play on a lot of softer ground pitchs like Bermuda grass or High School/College Stadiums.
The studs are longer and there are less so this equals better grip and deeper ground contact, due to less mud build up and the fact that you can cut through the crap on top of the field.
If I were you though I would go with a bladed or set stud SG shoe like the Total 90 or Manias they put less pressure on the stress centers of your foot because there is no srew pushing in to the bottoms of you feet.
I dont know what the snap stud system with the vapors is like but there is no screw to cause pressure so I am sure they are comfortable as well.
The plus side to the 90's is the fact that the studs are set and you can't loose them on the feild and the Air in the sole plate really does reduce stud pressure to a point of not even feeling it.

Yeah, I play high school soccer in Louisiana, and we get plenty of rain in the winter...
So you're recommending that I DO get some? And you are recommending the Total 90s and Manias?
OK, thanks. Any other input is appreciated. It'll be at least a few months before I can afford a good pair of cleats, so I've got a while...
Off topic:
Yeah, even my FG Vapors have a lot of pressure from the studs/blades(whatever you want to call it). They're really light, but there's absolutely no support and it hurts like hell when someone steps on your foot, it's almost like being barefoot. I think next time, I'm getting some Predators...

Yeah I would invest in some SG boots if I were you.
The stud pressure from the Vapors was a problem with the first run of the shoe now they have improved the padding under the sole plate and they should be more comfortable. I have Manias and had Vapors till they got the tounge ripped out but a guy making a lunging tackle and i will say i never noticed how much getting my feet stepped on hurt till I owned them.
I also own Total 90 II's and I really love this boots they feel great in terms of fit, comfort, and touch and they dont get water logged because they are microfiber. If you go with an SG I would pick these, I am kinda pissed that they don't offer the Kangroo leather model in SG though because I think that is going to be my next boot buy.

These are about the best SG boots you can buy--I have a pair and the stud plate is so good its like wearing molded shoes. A bonus is that they look pretty cool.

I am a manager of a soccer store and I agree that it is worth it to have a pair of SG's on hand for that special monsoon occasion.
But I do have to tell you one piece of advice, try evrything on. Because the foot plate for soft grounds has to be so stiff, make sure the upper fits you like a glove.... if it doesn't, your feet are not gonna like you very much. You can usually find the fit AND the look you want these days, but if you have to go with somethinga little less attractive to get the right fit, DO IT!

OK, so everyone is highly recommending the Total 90 IIs? I guess I might try a pair on. I think my coach can get them for me for about $100, he got my Vapors for $104(+$6 shipping) when they were $180.
JC18 and cmh, you guys actually use the Total 90 IIs, right?
Devils, do you play? What SG cleats do you use/recommend?

Personally...I hate HATE X-TRX SG... There's a reason why most pro's are wearing conical SG studs for their Mania's...cuz X-TRX licks
I'd say go with traditional 6 studs. I don't think that when the pitch is wet, the studs will really dig into your feet. It's negligible in my opinion. Like goyoureddevils said, go with fit.
What sort of foot pattern do you have? (wide/medium/narrow)

I prefer these. They treated me very well this past fall season.
