This could put a serious screw in Italy's plans.

If it happens we'll have to hear about it as an excuse for all eternity. But big deal, if it helps us win, so be it. And if the allegations are true they deserve to lose anyway (sucks for uninvolved players though).

There will always be naysayers. Screw 'em; a win is a win.

Maybe Steve Sampson can coach 'em. He should be available soon and he's got WC experience!

All of this is great news for Ghana, but I would think that Italy would become refocused extremely quickly after a loss or tie against the Black Stars.

Yes, our chances of advancing will be much better if Italy win the first game.

Have you watched Italy's behavior in recent international tournaments? Thow adversity at them and they whine and point fingers. A loss to Ghana would degenerate into whining and backbiting and focussing on everything but whats on the field.

Losing or performing badly in their first game won't guarantee they take the pitch with fire after that. You only have to look back one World Cup for evidence of that (France '02).
Lose the first game to Senegal, and failed to score in all three games.

Zoff wasn't the best either. Sure took them to the Euro Cup final, but they lost in the final minutes.

So much for all those people who kept insisting that this wouldn't effect the Italian team. Like I've said all along, this would hurt Italy. And now it is. It helps us, but I do feel sorry for the fans and the people who were not involved but are feeling the effects.

There's this on the coaching change from Gazzeta dello Sport :
So, Lippi is staying unless something drastic happens between now and then.

I'll give it a go:
The sport and legal controversy is taking on a political tone (?): Should Marcello Lippi go to the Cup on the Italian bench? According to senator Andreotti there's no doubt: "Lippi should go to Germany. We are a country that guarantees civility and for now this is only about publicity of tapped phone conversation, a barbarous system that we think is characteristic of fascism.
