Good article.
Interesting that they went to Hejduk for a quote. I'd like to see the Dude doing WC match analysis at ESPN HQ while he's recovering. That would be good stuff.
By most accounts, Dempsey is doing all he can to get himself ready...

occasionally people here compare the two Clints. While they both can do the unexpected ( in a good sense) the new Clint is unbelievably fit and a super hard worker.

Clint to me has been the story of this years WCQ.
He had a flashy and colorful debut but kind of hit the wall when the word was out on him. In his earlier NT callups, he was all over the place and just did stupid kid stuff.
Off season came and boy did he work his ass off. He has really brought his game to the next level, offensively and defensively.
He just took the bull by the horn in every opportunity he was given.
absolute same MO as Beas and LD. Arena needs to find a way to have both Demp and Convey on the pitch

An important thing here is Hejduk is one of the few players who can draw on experience from the '98 team. He's experienced first hand along with Pope, McBride, Keller and Reyna (maybe a couple others) what happens when the mix isn't good and things implode on the field. 2002 was the exact opposite and it seems this team is going to be like the '02 team. Those players have experienced both and know what they're talking about

I can not wait to see Clint taking on some of the best defenders one on one . He has so much skill and talent and this could be a break out tournament for Deuce

Who is on the left for Czech? Not Poborsky is it? Jankulovski?

I thought Nedved was playing on the left for the Czechs?

It is Nedved. However, he isn't a traditional winger, as he drifts inside quite a bit.

he NEVER plays as a winger....ever. If he plays the right side of midfield, he plays in a lot tighter than Convey or Beaz will on the left. He is a guy that attacks the goal, not just trying to get to the end and cross.

1) In the Nat games I've seen him play on the right, I've watched him on the touchline at times. I believe you exaggerate your point a bit.
2) Him tucking in is not a bad thing if it makes space for Cherundolo to overlap.

I'll go a step farther, it really works great with the USMNT because it gives both Donovan, Beasley/Convey, Reyna and/or Wolff the opportunity to switch out wide right which they frequently do.

I do too. He has something a little extra.
What he has the best part of his game is not with the ball contrary to popular belief. It is when he does not have the ball when the ball is up.
Then he is dangerous, but you have to be on the field to do that and not on the bench.

The old Clint before his injuries was one of the greatest players this country ever produced. Very good passer, can shoot from any where on the field, pretty good on headers , had the second best first step speed Ramos had the best first step speed, he could create his own shots off the dribble and was a really good finisher.
If he was not injured just before 2002 WC he probably would have kicked asre and it might have been enough for us to beat germany and mov on.
