Another way of looking at it is that, if the story holds as you said then the "Israelites" have many "goys" to be thankful that they are still around. Clearly, they have received numerous "interventions" from other "goys" to stop the "Israelites' hardship". Another point of debate is that since "Israelites" have been persecuted by different people from different lands, tribes, ....., I think it would be wise that they started to look inward for a change and quite often the answer lies within the "problem" itself. Another word, I would want to find out why "everyone" seems to hate me if I find everyone wanting to come after me. Is it something that I possess that nobody else has anywhere else, or is it something about me that I may be able to modify --("am I always right? or could I possibly be wrong, at least once").
