Which defenders do you guys think have the highest chances of scoring goals/assisting goals in the world cup?
Pablo Sorin (Argentina)
Roberto Carlos (Brazil)
Sol Campbel?
who else has a scoring record while being a defender?

I can't think of a better goal scoring centre back than John terry at the moment he's got 7 goals in total this season, mostly headers, but also a spectular volley. He's yet to score a goal for England yet, but he almsot scored one in the last game.
Sol Campbell gets a 1 or 2 goals a season and as a youth player was a cnetre forward, but he's not as good at getting goals as Terry.
The best goalscoring defender of all time though is without a doubt Ronald Koeman.

Yeah right, Hierro beats them all. At a time he was Spain's top scorer, EVER. Dunno if he still is.

As Hierro played mostly as a midfielder for Spain I don't count him, otherwise we might as well talk abotu Chris Sutton as well (Premiership top scorer 97-98 can play as both a centre foward and a centre back).

Per Mertesacker from Germany scored 4 goals in the last 5 matches for his club. I hope he can keep it up with the national team. :)

Oguchi Onewyu of the Us is strong with is head and all, so he is dangerous on set pieces.
And of course, despites its like 1 in like 100 he makes, Roberto Carlos is always dangerous from free kicks

Thanks for the input. Massimo Oddo from Lazio, Italy is the league's top scoring defender with 7 goals (not bad), but he tends to sit on the bench for Italy national team.
John Terry is another candidate as well.
I think in general defenders who take their team's free kicks have the highest chance of scoring.

Both English central defenders will be dangerous in offensive set pieces and I also predict those who play in Premiership to be active in these situations (for example Ricardo Carvalho of Portugal, Nemanja Vidic of Serbia Montenegro, Kolo Toure of Cote d'Ivoire or Philippe Senderos of Switzerland). It's because in English game defenders often fight in the air during corner kicks etc.

Yes they only do that in England. In all other countries the central defenders are small and have absolutely no heading skill. They have to stay in their own box when they have a corner on favor of their team.

Campbell, Ferdinand and Terry are all dangerous from set pieces.
Also, Carlos and Cicinho.
