Hi everybody,
Greetings from Gotham.
I'm working on a piece on the perfect spots across the U.S. for cheering on Uncle Sam and it'd be interesting to find out from diehard Yank fans what your favorite venue is. Places where you can paint yourselves red, white and blue? If you want to soak up the big-game atmosphere as U.S.A. plays Italia - where will you turn out? I - and our readers who back our boys - crave the inside info on where to go. Crew Stadium, Arrowhead Pavilion, Irish pubs, sports bars, whatever, it's all welcome. It can be for a quote or not.
Any input would be hugely appreciated!
Thank you so much

The Soccer pubs thread is a pretty good start. I would also highly recommend PMing the folks who are listing new pubs on that thread as they will be the locals who are really organizing the US fans at the grass roots level.

In the Washington DC area, Summers in Arlington, VA was probably the number one spot for die-hards during WC 2002, although I watched several games in an Irish pub by the MCI center with lots of others.
Considering how much more favorable the time differential for games is this time around I would expect these places to be even more loaded with fans.
I decided to go to Germany this year to avoid the crowds. ;)

Soccer pubs in Chicago; Ginger's Ale House and The Globe.
You'll also find a difference between where the American fans and the Mexican fans go in the major cities. That could be interesting. I think most Mexican-Americans in Chicago will be going to places on the south side.
That's for the serious soccer fan. I think the more casual fan will look to places that organize large, open aired parties.

Summers in Arlington Va stayed open 24 hours a day during the last cup, and they still had to shut their doors the place was so full. People watched on the streets through the windows.

My favorite place is Vaughn's Public House in Hartford. They are helping organize an all-day street party on Pratt Street before the USA/Latvia game which has become a massive tradition!

agree with this post. there are a lot of options in the DC area, but Summers is one of, if not, the longest serving soccer bars in the region. food is lacking in quality, but atmosphere for the viewing of matches is what the place is known for. often a good turnout of fans for all international sides, but the US gets a strong, supportive crowd there as well.

Wow, you people totally rule. Thank you so much for all the help on this. The thread is absolutely fantastic too. You just can't beat spots with a bit of atmosphere and a vibe which conveys a genuine enthusiasm for the U.S. And for that, they should be promoted.
Golazo -- Plentiful coverage in the paper and on the Web site, I'm glad to say. We will have a news tracker, our intrepid sports correspondent Stefan Fatsis keeping a running diary of the U.S. games, action pics and articles on all to do with the U.S. (including a reunion with the U.S. supporters we wrote about in 1998.) As a fan of the U.S., you will definitely feel the love from the Journal.

In D.C., the Lucky Bar on Connecticut Avenue shows games every weekend. The only issue with the last World Cup was getting there early enough before they hit capacity. The owner is Welsh I believe. The spill over crowd went to Jury's Pub on DuPont Circle. Also (since the games last time were at 5am or so) the Diner in Adams Morgan was always packed to the gills - it's open 24 hours a day. Though anywhere in Adams Morgan will have at least one TV showing the games (Ethiopian restaurants, Salvadorean restaurants, etc.), and even the stores and bodegas will have TVs going. It's gonna be bananas.
