Human rights groups are raising alarms over a new law passed by the Iranian parliament that would require the country's Jews and Christians to wear coloured badges to identify them and other religious minorities as non-Muslims.

"This is reminiscent of the Holocaust," said Rabbi Marvin Hier, the dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles. "Iran is moving closer and closer to the ideology of the Nazis."

Iran's roughly 25,000 Jews would have to sew a yellow strip of cloth on the front of their clothes, while Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would be forced to wear blue cloth.

Neanderthals.

I can't wait for IM's defense of this one.

This is horrific.

It is actions like this that make me question our government's insistence on isolating Iran, both diplomatically and by attempting to push sanctions.

Sanctions in NK and Cuba have done nothing to weaken the regimes in charge -- in fact, they have strengthened them, allowing the leadership to convince their "citizens" that America is the big great evil, as is the Western World, and only their state is a true shining light. Isolating Iran at its current point would only increase the probability that and ideas of freedom and equality and Sex in the City Reruns would be completely unable to penetrate the Iranian mental landscape.

Punishing Iran for these kinds of actions through isolation and sanctions make it more likely that these kinds of actions will continue successfully.

We can only win the war of ideas by allowing the citizens of Iran to know about these ideas. Only through airdropping liquor and playboy magazines will the chains of radical Islam be removed from its people.

I would assume that IM would say things like "it's for their own safety, so when the religious-police go about arresting and beating people for not wearing the proper covering, they can avoid beating the non-Islamic people for not wearing their proper covering."

And then, you know, they can beat them for not being Muslim.

Nonsense. This is just another case of inaccurate, and sensational journalism by National Post. The proposed legislation is about promoting "indigenous fashion" and has nothing to do with Jews or Christians in particular.

Likely the same way that number tattoos were indigenous to German Jews. Who knew.

The National Post is sending shockwaves across the country this morning with a report that Iran's Parliament has passed a law requiring mandatory Holocaust style badges to identify Jews and Christians.

But independent reporter Meir Javdanfar, an Israeli Middle East expert who was born and raised in Tehran, says the report is false.

"It's absolutely factually incorrect," he told The New 940 Montreal.

"Nowhere in the law is there any talk of Jews and Christians having to wear different colours. I've checked it with sources both inside Iran and outside."
"The Iranian people would never stand for it. The Iranian government wouldn't be stupid enough to do it."

Political commentator and 940 Montreal host Beryl Waysman says the report is true, that the law was passed two years ago.

"Jews should wear yellow strips, Christians red strips, because according to the Iranian mullahs, if a Mulsim shakes hands with a non-Muslim he becomes unclean."

The National Post cites Iranian expatriots living in Canada as its primary source on the story.

Reportedly, the only waiver to the dress code is allowing American-style daypacks if packed with dynamite.

Gosh Mani, such harsh words and just when I was agreeing with you and your glorious leader about the curious fashions of central European Jewry around the time of that great Zionist hoax.
You are not alone Mani.

Certainly seems like a crazy story, but this article is as lacking in direct sources as the one in the Nat'l Post.

A spokesman for the Iranian Embassy in Ottawa refused to comment on the measures. "This is nothing to do with anything here," said a press secretary who identified himself as Mr. Gharmani.

The mainstream media have not; touched the story, because it's simply false. If there was any truth to this outrageous report, it would be all over the media the same way as Ahmadinezhad's comments about Israel and the Holocaust, were.

Don't call them Aryanians. It makes them mad. They are Persians.

Yellow allows the Jews to market their "Throwback kits" look to their earlier club history.

All I know is, I'm with the Imperial Wizard Ahmedinejad on this one. Stick it to them, our Aryan brother!
