Er, you left out Steven Gerrard. Best midfielder in the world. Gerrard is certainly bigger (and better) than Ballack and Kaka so he should be on your poll instead of one of those two. He's more well known than either of them now.

Is this in terms of worldwide fandom/knowledge of to those who aren't interested in the game? Because then I would say Ronaldinho.

No, in that case it would be Beckham without a doubt. Millions of Asians and Amricans know who Beckham is. Not ol' goofy chops.:p

OK, I see, it's who you have on your fantasy roster. That's not a very good criterion though. I think many people agree Buffon is the best goalie right now, so he will be in people's squads - doesn't necessarily make him a star though. I guess the question is too ill defined for a start.
Edit: had a closer look at the list. What a joke... Huth in front of Carragher, Vidic, Bouhlaroz, Sagnol? Etc.

Riquelme is much better than gerrard I.M.O.
so what if he missed the p.k. against arsenal, he was the one that got the team that far anyways.. its only human for people to make mistakes.. and to his misfortune he did wrong on a big stage like the CL.. put gerrard in the villareal midfield instead of riquelme and i guarantee that they wouldnt of even made it past the group stage.

Funny that. Gerrard lead his Liverpool team to WIN the Champions League last season. Gerrard was the one who initiated the Liverpool fightback from 0-3 down in last season's final, scoring a goal and making another one.
What am I even bothering to argue with intellectual prawns?
P.S) In case you are unaware Steven Gerrard was voted MOST VALUABLE player in last season's CL....and this season he has scored 23 goals.........from midfield.
Can Riquelme do THIS?:
