Check out this page, it has information on flights with the budget airlines. I didn´t see any flight from LHR, but I did see some from Stanstead at reasonable prices

www.britishairways.com have about 7 flights a day from Heathrow, looks like the cheapest one at the moment for 8th June is £137.50 one way.
According to www.bahn.co.uk the route by rail would be Eurostar to Brussels, then ICE to Cologne, then on to Mannheim, then Munich, taking about 10 hours.
Does that help at all?

Thanks for helping and researching this, I think 10 hours is too long, so probably better to take the flight from Heathrow, I don't see any other option, , from Stanstead the flight is about $165.00 euros, a bit cheaper, but more complicated to get there, since we are arriving in Gatwick. There was this other option of flying into hamburg and then a train to Munich, this flight is $22.00 euros, quite cheap, but I have to research the trains and see how to get to Munich and how long, maybe is the same as Brussels etc... since this flight arrives quite late into Hamburg. So anyway thanks for all your help! :) The important thing is to get to the match!!!

There's EasyJet from Stansted to Munich for 67.30 Euros on June 8, leaving 8:10am.
And then there's Ryan Air to Salzburg (Austria), 90 miles away, at 41 Euros.
If you're traveling 4 persons, the savings pay for the car rental and you get to see the beautiful countryside :)

There is a bus service from Salzburg to Munich, takes about two hours. That's all I know about it so far, but if you're thinking of going that way I can probably find out more.
EDIT: Oops, forgot to mention, there are trains too of course. Salzburg is small, so it's an easy 10-minute bus ride from the airport to the main station.

Thanks...I ended buying a ticket from BMI which is with Lufthansa at $200.00 USD, I know it is not that cheap, but figuring we were arriving from an overseas flight and were not going to be that awake...:o , we opted to get this flight, it gets us from Heathrow to Munich, we found it to be not that expensive compared to others via this airline or British which were around $700.00 usd. EasyJet had one from Stanstead to Munich for around $160.00 euros, so it is not that different. So what is the best way to get from Gatwick to Heathrow? thanks everybody to help us!!!!!:)

Hmmm... that doesn't sound like a very good price. I've never paid more than 100$ for a flight from London to anywhere in Europe. In the future you could try www.travelsupermarket.co.uk, www.expedia.co.uk, www.ebookers.com
There is a shuttle bus from gatwick to Heathrow:
http://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/heathrow_gatwick_transfer.htm
not very cheap either though. But the alternative is Gatwick Express to London Bridge and then by tube (check out www.tfl.gov.uk) which is going to take ages.

I had to book with BA from Heathrow to Dusseldorf to Munich last week as the flights have shot up in price in the last month. I'm sure if you live in London and can get to Stanstead you'd get a great deal. It is the old time v money arguement though. Stanstead just seems too much hassle to get to for a 8am flight, check in and arrive in Germany after a trip around the world. Plus the train from Heathrow to Stanstead seems to cost about 30 pounds itself too!
Thank you for the links, I have bookmarked them for future travel plans!

Ryanair to Friedrichshafen from stansted is £0.99 each way +taxes. Im flying out for the opening game and england v. paraguay and thats what im doing. Its 2 hours by train from Munich central but thats only €40 return anyway so works out much cheaper than flying right in to munich.
