Personally, Shaun Wright-Phillips not making the
English time was kind of foolish. Very surprised to
not see Mexes on the French team.

For Argentina it is Javier Zanetti. I dissagree with Pekerman, but I guess he wants defenders who stay home.

Zanetti didn't make the squad?

Yes, that was stunning. I don't understand how he can do that. Hasn't Zanetti captained Argentina within the past two years?

Oh my. I just looked at the Argentina boards, and Scaloni made the team!! Over Zanetti. Wow.

I'm also surprised France left Guily home.
What's going on with Les Bleus, anyway?

And to top it off, Italy didn't call Christiano Zanetti, either. So in the span of 4 short years, the World cup has gone from two Zanettis to zero Zanettis. It's a cruel game, this.

Argentina did not select Samuel or Veron either.

I agree with what people have said regarding France and the
Argentines, their coaches might live to regret the absences of
Mexes and Zanetti.
I'd also add some of Aragones's omissions; Baraja is an experienced
midfielder and I don't think that Morientes was ever bad for Spain (if
mediocre for Liverpool). I notice he only took three strikers, one of
whom is the now-debilitated Raul, and no Vicente. That could be very
bad business if Villa doesn't show at the WC.
For the Azzurri, one name - Materazzi. That's all I need say. But I
might also mention that Lippi took Iaquinta instead of rolling the dice
on a Tavano or Cassano. Pretty stodgy.
Ericksson's pick of Walcott is amusing. Depending on how the kid does
(and he's done nothing to earn his place on the roster), people will call
him a visionary or a madman, but like war football has a funny way of
making people heroes or goats. :)

SWP's ommision is justified, Aaron Lennon is on top form, far better than SWP, and we don't need three right wingers.
I'm not surprised that Veron or Cassano were left at home, players like that are more trouble than they're worth.

for me its
Zanetti not being selected
also to a lesser degree..Baraja, Demichelis(any day of coloccini), Cassano and Vicente(still he has been injured), also Alex of Psv and Alex the attacking mid

Apparently, our genius of a manager had a brilliant idea. OK, I have my starting 11, now for second fiddles I'll take people who will just be happy to be there and not screw the group...Well, that's quite risky too...

Add Seedorf and Makaay to the list altrhough no one expects them to be gouing to WC Finals.

Demichelis definetly, he has had such an outstanding season. There are not many Argentines who had a better year than him...
His tragic reaction really says it all...what a damn shame..

Baraja has been utter crap this season and he never did a good game for Spain. Vicente has had a lot of injury problems and he's not at a good level now. I agree with having too few strikers and bringing Morientes could've been a good idea.
The most surprising abscences: Huntelaar, Makaay, Demichelis and Zanetti.

Italy: no Cassano, Lucarelli or Tavano. I would love to have seen those three in the team. Iaquinta sadly isn't the Iaquinta of 2004-05. The only match he has played well in for the 2005-06 season was in the CL against Panathinaikos.
Australia: I would have preferred to have seen Michael Thwaite there. He has only played for the Socceroos once but he is better than Popovic.
I'm disappointed with the omissions of Makaay and Zanetti from their respective NTs.

That's unkind. Baraja was quite good in 2002, I thought.

Leaving out Pernia and taking del Horno was a surprising mistake by Spain.
And Guti has played better this season than Baraja.
