I haven't seen anyone mention it. He is having knee surgery. It isn't 100% but Rooney's chances look a lot better than Vieri's at this point. Too bad for Christian, who is a top-rate player, but good for the US. With all of the problems thay are having, I don't think we are going to see an Italian team totally concentrated on the Cup. Buffon certainly can't have his mind 100% on the game right now, and that is important for the goalkeeper especially.

Probably hasn't been mentioned because he isn't in their squad.

Forwards: Luca Toni (Fiorentina), Alberto Gilardino (AC Milan), Filippo Inzaghi (AC Milan), Alessandro Del Piero (Juventus), Vincenzo Iaquinta (Udinese)

Too bad, but I guess good for us. We'll need all the help we can get, but it would have been nice to beat their prefered lineup.

And in related news John Wolyniec is injured and will not be in the US squad...

The top story tonight: Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.

BROOKLYN connects, yes
Really, it would have been hard for Vieri to be in the roster this year because of injury and lack of form in general. Even if healthy, Iaquinta was way more deserving them him.

I dunno
I think id rather try to mark up against Vieri rather than Luca Toni and Filipho Inzagi...
The 2 of them will be menacing defences all tournamant long, including ours..

He's not in their prefered lineup. Gil, Toni, Inazghi, and the other dude are all better atthis point. Italy fans would have tried sueing Lippi if he had included Vieri in the squad

When is the last time Vieri played for Italy anyway?
This is not news.

My bad... I read an article that made it seem like he was supposed to go. I still think that all the trouble Italy's scandal has caused might hurt them though. Mods you should probably delete this.

Vieri was supposed to be on the nt. coach lippi stated months ago that vieri would be on the team and would play an important role. vieri is way past his prime and would have been on the nt only due to his friendship with lippi. it's no loss at all for italy.

All are better than Vieri at this point anyways...
