I will be heavily moderating this thread . Please keep to the subject of Names only. All rant posts stating anti/pro Philly or Jersey will be deleted. Debate the other details on another thread. Thank you.

I'm going to go on the record and say that I voted for Independence FC, but I think I'd prefer it with the "SC" nomenclature, instead of the European style "FC".

I also like Philadelphia Athletic but it was barely mentioned and did not make the poll.

Already we have 4 "other" votes yet no posts on what they want.
If you posted Other please post what you want, otherwise your vote is even more meaningless than usual.

Although I voted for "Delaware Valley Athletic Club", my second preferred choice would be for "Independence SC" (instead of FC). I think that having the team called Soccer Club is a lot safer than having it be called Football Club because most people in this area call the game soccer. I think you would be leaving yourself open to negative publicity by calling it FC. By calling it FC, you would be adding to the perception that the game could never be truly American. I also think that Independence AC wouldn't be a bad option since the stadium is going to be located in area that is surrounded by sporting venues and fields for a variety of Rowan Sports.

If Independence Continues to lead by such a wide margin 10 of 22 votes include Independence then we will have a nomenclature poll that would include FC, SC, and Philly (the most mentioned/voted for selections)

I kind of like the direction that MLS went with Toronto and Dallas, in not giving them nicknames, and to see what came out (even though Dallas went with Hoops instead of FC Meatlovers for some reason  ), by natural evolution with the fans.
So along those lines, I went with Delaware Valley Athletic Club. There's lot's of directions that folks can go with nicknames.

"Other" for me. I am just not sold on a team name yet. Although I do the like the Toronto idea of morphing into it's identity, rather than throwing one on...

I'm usually pretty opinionated, but I am at a loss right now as to a name. I know I would like "Soccer Club" ("SC") to be in the name somewhere, but as for the full name &/or moniker, I have no idea yet!
I just have one request from the rest of you...let us please avoid the use of "FC." It just doesn't carry the same meaning around here as it does across the Pond.

I really like the "Atlantic" name. In an area of hyper sensitivity of geographic identifications, it says, "Screw it! We want Jersey fans, Philly fans, Delaware fans, Connecticut fans, Georgia fans, Bermuda fans, Portugal fans. We're even better than Red Bull, screw them!"

I would prefer to either go the Toronto route (Philadelphia SC and then let a name evolve over time), or a name that works off the "d" in PhilaDephia, not the "Ph," such as Philadelphia Demons (or Philadelphia Delilahs).

I voted for Independence SC eventhough I like Independent SC
Philly Independent FC
I beleive they should use Philly instead of Philadelphia that way when they move to SJersey people can not complain for having the "official" name of another city.
And yes I live in Houston but have roots in Phila.

I choose Independence FC from the poll, but I also like Demons playing on the "D". And whatever color scheme we come up with, like Maroon Demons or Red Demons would have some marketing appeal.

On another board I'm on (http://boards.sportslogos.net), someone posted a Philly concept (http://boards.sportslogos.net/index.php?showtopic=28952#entry423640) back in November. I really liked the design, as well as the name chosen:
FC 1776 Philadelphia
Now, before you hit reply, I realize this probably isn't a usable name, or is at least a name that many people will hate, because:
- We already had the Houston 1836 debacle. (They shoulda kept it. Nyah.)
- There's already a team named the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA.
- It's the US, damnit, and "FC" is supposed to be "SC" according to many, and there's supposed to be a nickname and I'm a dirty Europoser and blah blah blah...
Despite that, I still like the name, and I loved the design. So when du Nord (http://www.dunord.blogspot.com/) pointed out the "vote for a name" thread, I had to share it. Keep in mind that I did not design this--if you want to contact the designer, you're going to have to go to the other board (links provided above) and contact him yourself. (And for all I know, he might well have an account here, but I don't know that for sure.)

Put me down as an "Other" vote:
In the original name the team poll, I voted for a Philly name - with something regional (i.e. Delaware Valley) being my 2nd choice. After it is all said and done, I still think that something simple and traditional is still the way to go (with the nickname created by the fans in due time), such as:
Philadelphia S.C.
or
Philadelphia United
I am afraid that a lot of the non-geographic names (i.e. Independence FC, FC 1776, etc.) which beckon back to Revolutionary times would more or less require a red, white, and blue kit....something that we do not need in MLS. Use of Union in the name will likely rub the white-collar crowd the wrong way. Philly S.C. would be the first MLS team with that moniker(after FCs with Dallas and Toronto) - Philly United would mirror DC but imitation is the best form of flattery.;)
