That really is quite interesting, i would not have thought (without really taking my time to consider) that Germany would be second.

Might be interesting to break it down to the top 8 ranked countries and where their players play week in week out.

Just for comparison's sake, there are 15 players from the 12 MLS teams going to the world cup. They represent the US, Mexico, TT, and Costa Rica. There were several alternates named from MLS including Roberto Mina of Ecuador, and a bunch of US players such as Taylor Twellman of NE.

I'm going to make a list of where every player in every country plays, if the media (or somebody else) doesn't beat me to it. I just did it for 2002:

Australia

Mark Schwarzer (Middlesbrough)
Craig Moore (Newcastle United)
Lucas Neill (Blackburn Rovers)
Tony Popovic (Crystal Palace)
Tim Cahill (Everton)
Brett Emerton (Blackburn Rovers)
Luke Wilkshire (Bristol City)
Harry Kewell (Liverpool)
Mark Viduka (Middlesbrough)

Josip Skoko is also on the books at Wigan, but is out on loan to Stoke city.

Stan Lazaridis can technically be listed as Birmingham, too. (Been there about 4 years, contract ran out after the last game last week, and he will be moving back to play in Australia).

Strangely, Australia have 3 other English Premier League players who didn't make the squad, and incidently have another 11 players in the English Championship.

Japan

Junichi Inamoto (West Bromwich Albion)

Nakata is at Bolton, too.

Brad Jones - GK - Middlesborough
John Filan - GK - Wigan

Some also claim Neil Kilkenny from Birmingham, though he was born in England

EDIT: If you're talking non-first team players, also James Troisi at Newcastle United, Rostyn Griffiths at Blackburn, Chris Herd and Shane Lowry at Aston Villa and Scott Jamison at Bolton.

Yeah, I was. And he really doesn't count I suppose, and nor does Kilkenny.

So sorry, it's 2.

It's kinda weird that the Australia squad has, what, the 3rd highest amount of English Premier League players at the WC. Who'd have thunk.

So which one of you people with way too much time on your hands is going to do a list for every WC player and every league in the world? Because I wanna see it. :D
