I just wanted to let everyone know about a World Cup Viewing Party for charity on June 17th. DC United, along with the RBIS Rampage soccer team, is hosting the event, and we hope to raise thousands of dollars for United for DC, the charitable arm of DC United.

WHEN: Saturday June 17, 2006
WHERE: Bailey’s Pub & Grille - Arlington, VA - In the Ballston Mall
TIME: Event begins at 11:30am – USA Kick Off at 3:00pm
(Czech Republic vs. Ghana at noon)
WHY: All proceeds will go to benefit United for D.C., the charitable arm of D.C. United which serves the Washington, D.C. community through the creation or support of programs, events and organizations that advance the educational and social welfare opportunities for the area’s youth.
COST: $10 Donation or for a $20 donation you’ll receive a FREE D.C. United Ticket! (A $23 value – redeemable on June 21st or June 24th). All will receive a free raffle ticket as well.

Last year we ran a similar viewing party for a US World Cup Qualifying game also benefiting United for DC. We were able to raise almost $2000 for the charity in addition to having a lot of fun. Since this is a World Cup game we expect the atmosphere to be even more incredible and in the process hopefully raise more money.

We are in the process of collecting donations for raffle prizes, but expect to see lots of great items including signed DC United memorabilia. We’ll keep you posted on more info as we finalize the details.

To read more about United for DC please click here: http://unitedfordc.mlsnet.com/
To read about and see pictures from last year’s charity event please click here: http://www.rampage.4t.com/Charity-Wrapup.htm

If you have any questions please email RampageCharity@gmail.com or post here on the boards. We’d love any help you can offer. The easiest thing you could do is show up and bring a few friends. It should be a ton of fun and is all for a great cause.

We are also working on getting some solid beer specials and getting a DC United player to come. However, they can't commit to sending anyone until very close to the date. We'll keep you posted on this as well as any other updates.

Also, if anyone went to the event last year and has some suggestions on how to make it better please feel free to email us at RampageCharity@gmail.com.

Hope to see you all there!

Last year was a great event. Let's get a good turnout, enjoy the game with other soccer fans and cheer on the US to a win over Italy. Pass this on and let's pack Bailey's.

Great! Is there an age restrictions as far as who can come and view the game? I would love to bring my son, but he is only 8. Please advise.

Just spoke with our contact at Bailey's - under 18 is allowed with an adult. Obviously over 21 to drink.

I got so excited about the World Cup that I forgot my son is playing in a tournament that weekend.... arrrggggghhhh. Do you know if the game will be shown again later that night? I really want to see this game.... I guess I will have to record it on VHS which sucks... I really need to get TIVO or a DVD recorder........

Again GO USA!!

The game will be reshown on ESPN classic at 6PM according to their site: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tvlistings/schedule?date=20060617&network=18&sport=all

However, I'll pray for rain so you can make it in person :-)

FYI - ESPN Classic will be reshowing the USA Portgal and USA Mexico games on Thursday.

Nice mention in the Washington Post:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/01/AR2006060100676_2.html

BAILEY'S 4238 Wilson Blvd., Arlington. 703-465-1300. While the Ballston sports bar is blanketed with televisions, it's not really going to be much of a World Cup destination -- except for on June 17. That Saturday, D.C. United is hosting a viewing party for the U.S.-Italy match, with proceeds from the event going to charity. Admission is $10, though paying $20 nets you a $23 ticket for an upcoming United match. A raffle will include signed D.C. United memorabilia. Doors open at 11:30, the Czech Republic and Ghana play at noon and the main event is at 3.

Why was this moved? Given that it's a DCU-sponsored event it seems perfectly appropriate for the main forum.

Look, I wish I could just take the next month off of work, but that just isn't going to happen. And, since I have to travel quite a bit, I need to know where I can catch World Cup matches around the state. For example, this Friday I will be in Richmond during the Germany/Costa Rica and the Ecuador/Poland games. Any suggestions?

The cities I am most interested in are:

Richmond
Virginia Beach/Norfolk

I already know where to catch the games in the DC area.

Mods - If there is already a thread on this, please feel free to merge.

In Richmond go to Penny Lane Pub. The owner Terry is a huge Liverpool fan and I know that every TV in the place will be on the World Cup. The food is not great but it has a real pub atmosphere and the bartenders on the first floor know soccer. Call to see if they are open for earlier games. They also record games and show them later in the evening for us saps stuck at work.

I also heard that Banditos http://www.banditosburritolounge.com/ will be showing World Cup games they have better food but won't have as many rapid soccer fans.

I have to work on Friday but might make up to Penny Lane at lunch.
