Well, there's been a lot of controversy and discussion about the selection of referees for the World Cup, as there has been with many of the other teams who will be attending. Every squad has had players left out who some people thought should have made it, the referee team is no exception.
I thought (somewhat geekily) that like every other fan on the site, we as referees could pick our personal squad of 23.
For reference, this is the list of 22 referees (De Santis having been dropped and not replaced) and 5 alternates currently on track for WC2006.

17 VASSARAS Kyros GRE For the purposes of this thread shall we say that referees who have been injured (like Batres) or are missing out because they personally are under a cloud (i.e. De Santis) shouldn't be eligible for selection in your squad, but referees who missed out because one of their assistants failed the fitness test (that is, Vassaras and Mejuto Gonzalez) should be eligible. After all, we're smarter than FIFA - we know Spain and Greece have more than two competent assistant referees.
