Are we Bayern fans living in some kind of illusion? Not long ago, the battle for number one goalie in Germany heated up. Before we knew it, King Kahn was relegated to the bench! What a surprise? It will be only a matter of time before Van Basten would announce his squad. Low and behold, Makaay didn't make the first 23. On the other end in S. America, coach Pekerman of Argentina followed with his own first 23 announcement... Demichelis was absent!
Hmmmmmmmm! Will more surprises come through? Folks, are we looking too high on some of our players? Are we living in some kind of fantasy land?

You nuts? They're not overrated....national coaches will always prefer players outside of germany over players in germany nowadays unless there is really no better choice outside Germany for a certain position, ala VDV.

Dead on, i would even go so far as to say that this whole team is overrated, not because of the selection process of some insane NT coaches but just by their perfomances when matched up against the real big guns of europe, and even their inability to put out convincing match winning performances against so-called lesser opponents.

Silly thread about silly decisions from some NT coaches. Don't forget Pekerman or van Basten left several players out (e.g. Samuel, Zanetti,Huntelaar, etc). It's their decison and I wouldn't wonder if it is the wrong one

I think it is just because we have an all around complete team for the most part. Noone in the Bundesliga can pull a Santa Cruz off the bench, or a Karimi, or Ze Roberto, etc. We are able to get away with sub-par years and still win a bundesliga championship because we are that talented. Our club at times has played extremely well having the best record in the first half of the season before winter break, but for the most part of the season since winter break we haven't played as well. I believe we have had the third best record in the Bundesliga since the winter break, Leverkusen and Bremen both had better second halves of the year. Hamburg was doing really well until injuries helped their wheels fall off.

Makaay is one of the best strikers in Europe to really never get any action internationally because of Robben and Van Nistelrooy, those two have always been world class! Makaay has come close a few times to becoming world class but never has.

When we had Ballack he was one of the best midfielders in Europe and easily is the best midfielder in Germany.

Lahm is one of the best young LB's in the game and will improve to be one of the best in the next few years, him and Schweinsteiger have a good chance of becoming world class in next few years.

Karimi was the best football in all of ASIA!!!

Santa Cruz, Scholl and Deisler are some of the most talented footballers ever to be unfortunate to always be injured.

Ze Roberto and Lucio are mainstays on the best NT in the world.

Brazzo and Pizarro are not world class, but are really hard workers, simple as that. Ismael almost fits in this category.

Hargreaves and Sagnol are really offensive minded defenders, but neither I don't believe are world class but have shown it at times with some of the plays they make.

Kahn a few years back was the best goaltender in the world and is fading.

I would agree with most of your assessment, but I think Sagnol is world class. He plays an important role in the French Defense and is always dependable at both the club and national levels.

I think all of the interest from the big clubs in Spain and Italy for him over the last year show his worth, as did FCB's decision to re-sign him for four more years.

I don't think anyone could really match Werder's attack this year, and if they keep it going they will be a force next CL as well. Hamburg next season if they can stay healthy will do some damage, I can't wait to see how they do. And Bayern is a bunch of question marks that we need to wait to see how they are going to be answered by Bayern management going into next season.

We will have 11 players participating in the World Cup, 12 even, if Deisler weren't injured. I think that speaks for itself. And by the way: Player's such as Barca's Giuly or Chelsea's Wright-Phillips didn't make the national squad either.
