4th minute 0-0
DeRoux wins ball off throw in to McTavish
Dya runs and plays Andy forward, wins throw
Throw disrupted and KC wins throw
McTavish wins ball...then commits a really bad giveaway
17 falls, KC still manages to get a shot that is blocked by Wilson
Andy loses the ball but Rimando manages to claim it before KC can capitalize
Filo plays to Moose who crosses to McTavish who is about two inches away from the goal and manages to send it over...wow. He really hit the island there, as Dave Johnson would say
KC passes around the back...plays long and goes into touch for a goal kick
DeRoux wins ball with acrobatic move, ends up being played back to GK
Filomeno claims deep kick from Rimando...Metcalf through to Dyachenko, knocked well over the fence by KC player
Nickell posts up and holds off his man, his deflected cross is sent into the parking lot by a defender
Corner taken by Moose...Filomeno gets a decent header near post but it goes over
Wilson yells at Filomeno, telling him to play higher
Nickell makes a really nice play to get the ball to Dyachenko but he can't hold it
10th minute 0-0
Great ball to Metcalf who slips in the box and consequently loses it
DeRoux makes a nice tackle to win the ball, plays to Carroll, then to Wilson, to De Roux, back to Wilson...Nickell makes a poor pass but Dyachenko gets it back
Filomeno with good high pressure
Metcalf throws to Nickell...Carroll passes across to Prideaux...works with Dyachenko...Prideaux shoots but a KC player blocks it
Nickell dribbles confidently as several players harry him ten yards away from box, plays the ball back around
Lots of players slipping on the turf
Prideaux defending cross and earns goal kick
Wilson pretty vocal as they maneuver the ball around
Giveaway by McTavish but KC isn't quick enough to break
KC passes to a player free in the box, DeRoux soars in with an epic slide tackle that results in both players on the ground with the ball rolling around on top of DeRoux. He rolls a bit to get the ball away from his arm and manages to toe poke it away. The KC player's furious penalty appeal is waved off by the referee
Prideaux shows good speed to stay with his man on a break, concedes corner
KC corner...cleared away by McTavish to Filomeno
Wilson plays long for Nickell, KC wins and goes long, offside
Carroll to Moose, Moose back to Prideaux, to Rimando, to Wilson, to Carroll in middle, up to Dyachcenko near midfield, long to Metcalf but the pass is too high, goes out
First foul of the game is called on DC near midfield...and then another on McTavish on a slide tackle that gets ball and doesn't even knock over the KC player
Much yelling from Rimando as KC sets up the kick
KC takes free kick...goes over everyone for a goal kick, Rimando could have saved his breath
19th minute 0-0
Rimando GK goes to KC, played long but Wilson in great position to box out until the ball goes out
The KC centerback shanks a clearance and DC recovers
Prideuax sends the ball forward to Nickell but he loses it out of bounds
Filomeno and Nickell with high pressure
Offside on KC's subsequent long ball is waved off by the referee as Rimando gets it
Wilson passes long to Filomeno but the pass sails (as so many have) and goes out
KC turns over at midfield, Dyahcneko plays deep to Filo but he can't get to it
KC wins a corner on the other end of the field...Nickell was all the way back to defend as Dyachenko was caught high after the previous play
KC corner cleared by Carroll for throw
KC makes a LONG throw that is caught by Rimando at the penalty spot
Rimando kicks deep, flicked on by Dyachenko to a 50-50 won by Moose but he loses it out of bounds
Wilson wins ball after poor touch from 33, after a deflected pass to the baseline, Filomeno wins corner by basically shoulder charging the defender before it can be cleared for a throw
Moose to take corner
25th minute 0-0
The corner goes just a hair over everyone, Metcalf recovers and plays it back to Wilson, back to Metcalf...advances, plays to Nickell...disrupted out of bounds
Metcalf to throw, Filo tries a fancy backheel shot. It doesn't come off but he keeps the ball, turns his man, and wins a corner
Moose to take
26th minute 0-0
Over everyone again, recovered by Metcalf on the sideline, he crosses over to the far post and a handball is called on McTavish in what looked like some sort of hand of God maneuver, though it was saved by the keeper in any case
Filomeno with a rather nasty tackle from behind
KC throw...eventually won by Dyachenko
Filomeno with nice bit of skill to hold ball
Dyachenko sweet touch to win ball, played ahead to McTavish who cuts it back to Moose...turned over
They win it back, DeRoux overlaps with Metcalf but Metcalf plays it inside...McTavish turns over but recovered and played around the back by DC
Nickell squares up, to Carroll to McTavish to DeRoux who crosses to Filomeno on the edge of the 6 yard box, but he just can't quite redirect it on frame properly
Moose is playing on the left for the moment, though Metcalf hasn't switched. Moose walking back over now
Hard foul on Metcalf, advantage played by ref, through ball to Carroll who gets it in the box and shoots low to the far post, misses by a foot
30th minute 0-0
Poor touch by KC's 13 loses ball out of touch, leading to considerable heckling from the crowd. Much made of his bright red shoes.
Prideaux with great move to surge forward, played wide to Moose who shoots over from edge of box
32 minute 0-0
Filomeno chopped down from behind, advantage played and Nickell shoots but relatively easy save for keeper. Crowd wants a card but it's not coming.
Another deep ball for KC goes over and out for a throw
DeRoux throws to Nickell, bounced up for a 50-50 and KC wins it
They play it through but Rimando comes out to claim it
Wilson takes GK, to DeRoux to Metcalf to Nickell to McTavish who misreads the situation and passes to KC
Great tackle by Moose leads to Filo getting ball and getting hacked down from behind again
23 given yellow for his trouble
Ball somewhat central, ten yards out of box
Dyachenko and Filomeno stand over it
Now Filomeno walks off it
Dyachenko shoots (I guess) and it's so high the back net only barely keeps it out of the parking lot
DeRoux makes a nice play at the other end but his clearance goes to KC...sliding interception by a backtracking Moose to win ball, played to Nikcell who cuts back to Moose at the top of the box but Moose slips
Wilson called for a rough tackle from behind but no card given
36 minute 0-0
Rimando plays to Filomeno, he burns 16, runs into the box and the keeper saves the one on one
DC throw results in Dyachenko fencing down in the corner, gets by and then is obviously pulled down, providing corner-like FK
Moose to take
37 minute 0-0
Everyone forward except Wilson. Carroll in the clean up spot.
The one man wall deflects kick, leads to breakway
Carroll mistimes his slide tackle and takes the man down from behind, makes the my fault gesture but this doesn't save him from a yelow
On ensuing FK Wilson, running at the top of the DC box, slips and his man goes down with him...arms are raised heavenward but the ref has none of it and DC moves up field
Moose plays to Nickell whose hard shot is batted over the bar by the KC GK
Corner to be taken by Moose
39th minute 0-0
Corner perfect, semi-flicked on, Carroll gets an awkward side kick with no power, cleared out
Hard foul on DeRoux for United FK...ultimately played long and KC GK gets it easily
Prideaux gets cute in defensive end, gets away with it
Played long to Nickell, KC knocks out for DC throw
Dyachenko throws to KC player, turnover
Played long to 33 who immediately loses it out of bounds
Handball leads to quick taken FK by United, KC concedes corner
Moose to take
41st minute 0-0
Corner placed well, header by Filo goes over but not by much
Dyachenko comes back to help Prideaux in the back corner of DC's box, takes an arm to the face and foul is called
Played long to other box off the foul...Filomeno runs shoulder to shoulder with his defender, taps the ball with his head around the defender, then five yards inside the box gets off a powerful shot as he is closed down...GOAL DC 1-0
KC goalkeeper had no chance, great solo effort by Filomeno. The KC defender could perhaps have done better, but Filomeno is too strong for one guy to easily close him down
Ball back in play and KC wins a throw. DeRoux adjusts his position after Wilson yells at him. The ball comes right where Wilson predicted and DeRoux wins it easily
McTavish gets a yellow for a late tackle
45th minute 1-0
FK into box cleared out by Wilson to Filomeno, to McTavish, long for Filomeno
KC sends it into the other soccer field, end of half DC 1-0

Overall a very good half for DC. Although they only lead by one goal, they've had most of the possession and by far the better chances. It could easily be 3-0. Wilson, surprisingly, seems to be an effective central defender, at least at the reserve level. Although he obviously doesn't have the size you expect he has been vocal with De Roux, McTavish, Filomeno, etc. Also his recovery speed means he can clean up long balls that get past the outside backs.
McTavish doesn't look quite so comfortable in the D-mid role as he did playing central defense last time. He's having trouble making good passes when the midfield is congested.
Moose didn't start out well...he had a fair number of bad touches...but got much better as the game went on and for the last 20 minutes was possibly the best player
Filomeno's goal was a great one on one effort...he has been good when he has been on the ball but his limited speed means that most through balls don't reach him...they have to be perfect
Metcalf and DeRoux were solid on the left side

Players coming out for the second half...oddly Dyachenko seems to be lining up as right wing with Moose as A-mid
DC to kick off
Deep throw for DC...Moose squares to Nickell in box...the defender plays it off him for a goal kick
Wilson calm on the ball...under pressure in central defense
Whoops, there was a halftime sub. Rimando is off for McIntosh
Dyachenko wins the ball deep, squares to Filo who returns it, cleared
Filomeno with obvious arm to the face of his defender. Foul called
Nice tackle by Moose wins ball, played to Nickell who takes it down into the box and crosses it back to Moose who touches it, sizes up the goal and has it knocked away because he took too long
Good cross by Dyachenko to Filomeno who settles, minces around for a bit but cannot get a shot off as he is swarmed by defenders. Pretty much what happens whenever he gets the ball on the senior side, in other words.
Jeff Carroll steps up to intercept a KC pass and just completely misses the ball somehow, KC breaks into the space he left but he tracks back to win it, then goes and turns it over again
Not to be outdone, KC immediately turns it over to McIntosh
50th minute 1-0
Filomeno with good pressure tracks back to win throw at midfield
Dyachenko with sweet move to control it, plays to Moose who falls over
Wilson takes the ensuing KC deep pass and plays long to Lucio but Tyson Wahl wins it
The ball is sent back up to Filomeno, he wins a throw
Nice play from Lucio to Moose back to Lucio, another throw deep
Dyachenko throws to Nickell who posts up but has two guys on him...they clear
Jeff Carroll fleeces Raad on the other end
Dyachenko with some stepovers, burns two guys (in fairness one slipped on the apparently ice rink-like turf), cuts it in to Filomeno who attracts the defenders and then lays off to Moose, Moose at the penalty spot has time to take a touch and then side foot the ball for the side netting...GOAL DC 2-0
Again the GK had no chance. The KC defense got carved up. Definitely didn't see this kind of thing in the reserve match against Dallas. Don't know really if our boys are playing better or if the opposition isn't up to snuff.
Crowd is yelling Mooooooooooose
Play starts again, Dyachenko called for a foul just inside midfield
KC plays forward but too far, goal kick for McIntosh
54th minute 2-0
Prideaux slips as his man receives a pass but recovers enough to disuprt
Hue has the ball, defended by McTavish. He chips it over...Prideaux with good position defends and concedes a throw
Foul called on Dyachenko as he scuffles for ball with KC player near the sideline
FK taken, goes to far post...McIntosh steps off his line, jumps for it, it goes just over his hand, hits the top of the far post and goes in...GOAL KC
DC leads 2-1
McIntosh completely at fault on the goal. It was a good free kick, but come on. I think he could have had it pretty easily if he doesn't misjudge it and step forward.
KC wins corner as play resumes
Corner goes to far post, Alex Zotinca is unmarked in the box and tries a left footed volley ala Esky, shanks is brutally and DC has a goal kick.
Movsisyan cuts past Carroll, gets a shot off but it is deflected wide
KC corner. DC needs to hold possession better.
Ball played short, then crossed deep, McIntosh takes...but then corner is called...I guess he strayed over the line? People from the crowd don't like the call, although eventually some concede that their position at midfield is slightly inferior to that of the linesman.
Corner is taken too low and Carroll, the nearest defender to the corner, clears
Nickell plays through to Moose but too far, goes out for throw
Movsisyan receives ball on corner of the box, slips and falls, fouls Prideaux as he tries to get up
McIntosh takes the free kick, cleared back and DeRoux wins throw
60th minute 2-1
Carroll knocked over, foul called, quickly taken, Prideaux comes up and Carroll turns it over but KC passes it directly out of bounds. Much heckling by the crowd
Nickell subbed off for Jamil Walker
Carroll concedes corner
KC takes corner...Moose wins as they take it short
Filomeno fouled near midfield
Nice ball by Metcalf to Moose. Moose nutmegs his defender and gets fouled just on the edge of he box
DC FK taken by Moose. Dangerous cross but somehow it goes through everyone for a goal kick
Lowry, a trialist wearing number 31, coming in for Moose. Someone says he is a local kid. By DC standards he's big.
Dyachenko plays a through ball to Walker, Walker is about two yards offside but somehow the linesman misses it and walker goes 1 on 1 with the keeper. He waits until the keeper comes out then tries sidefoot it to the far post but the keeper is quick and saves it
Back to the other end. Good save by McIntosh on cross
OK, so this Lowry guy has taken McTavish's d-mid spot, McTavish is playing central defense, DeRoux moved up to take Moose's old position at left wing while Wilson moved over to left back, Dyachenko is back to A-mid. Got all that?
Prideaux gets card for a pretty soft foul...from behind but he got plenty of ball and not a lot of contact. The KC player didn't even fall.
McIntosh comes out on the ensuing free kick and punches clear. Pays the price as he is flipped over.
67th minute 2-1
Ticky tack foul called on KC, DeRoux takes quickly
Ball ends up back with McIntosh, plays long but KC takes it easily
They play long, over everyone yet again for throw
Prideaux takes throw...disrupted out by Shirley (who is getting the Scarlett treatment with an extra dash of "surely you can do better" puns to boot)
Prideaux to throw again.
Movsisyan gets the ball, closed in by Prideaux, fires off a decent shot from inside the box but it's right to McIntosh.
At the other end a good cross is just a bit too far ahead of Filomeno
KC throw...disrupted into crowd
McTavish gets it back...forward to Carroll...again the ref stops play. A ball from the other field made it to the center circle. Crowd cheers as Carroll just blasts the ball back over the fence.
Drop ball is sportingly returned to DC by Movsisyan. Coems forward but KC wins a throw deep in their own end...ends up disrupted
Raad subbed off to the disappointment of the crowd who have been letting him have it all day. Ryan Pore comes on for him.
Metcalf with a good tackle on the sideline to concede throw deep in DC territory
Long throw into the box, Prideaux heads out for a corner
Watson to take corner for KC
73rd minute 2-1
McIntosh saves a weak KC shot from distance
Prideaux down with a hurt ankle, receives treatment. He seems to be actually hurt, which is bad news because DC is out of players. Even with the trialist they only had two available subs, not counting the starters from last night, who are present but clearly not about to come in.
Prideaux walks off under his own power after a minute or two with the trainer.
Lowry wins the ball as play resumes
Prideaux back on.
Walker gets ball after turn over
Lays off to Dyachenko, he's doubleteamed at the baseline and loses it for corner
The goal kick taken quickly and pretty innacurately. Hue has to run to get any kind of touch and comically falls out of bounds. The crowd lets him know they enjoyed it.
Metcalf throws in and the ball is worked around to DeRoux on the other side
Turnoover leads to KC breakaway by Pore
He holds up in the box and plays it back
Wilson wins ball and takes it forward, ends up fouling as KC disrupts
77th minute 2-1
Free kick taken to baseline, crossed to no one and goes out for DC throw
Prideaux to throw...Dyachenko inexplicably heads it back toward DC's goal in a spot where two KC players are happy to take it, but Lowry wins it and clears it out
Filomeno with high pressure
So Prideaux appears to be playing forward up top with Filomeno...that's, ah, interesting. Walker is playing A-mid, Carroll is playing as a back with McTavish in the center and Wilson on the other side.
Hue gets a clear shot but it goes right at McIntosh
Lowry turns it over and KC gets a shot off, but it goes wide
Prideaux combines with Walker and Walker almost gets a scoring chance
KC shoots from distance and it goes safely over
Filomeno wins ball off Metacalf flick on
Filomeno gets ball on give and go with Metacalf but loses it over the line for a goal kick
Walker almost steals it from the central defender, who sends it long but DC wins it.
Played forward to Filomeno who turns his defender and gets fouled
Metcalf to take throw in KC territory, lays off to McTavish, to Jamil, back to Lowry, back to Jamil...deep cross to Dyachenko
He runs it down at the baseline, lays back to Preideaux
Prideaux plays to Walker who does a give and go with Carroll(?) that puts him free on the goal keeper for the second time today.
Walker touches it past as the keeper storms out. It's creeping toward the goal line in slow motion. The keeper is on the ground but he lunges and knocks the ball clear...but the ref signals GOAL DC 3-1 85th minute
Play resumes. Jeff Carroll with a bad miss starts a KC break, but offside is called
Long kick to Filomeno, to Prideaux, to Dyachenko...back to Prideaux. Brandon whips a cross in to the top of the six yard box where Filomeno beats his man and heads it. GOAL DC 4-1
I'm sure Prideaux has had assists before, but how many has he had while playing forward?
Back in play. Corner for KC is sent to top of the box...Wilson wins it...Walker turns it over but McTavish wins it back
Metcalf has McTavish overlap...kind of odd since McTavish is central defense, or I thought he was.
McTavish gets the ball at the top of the box, shoots hard toward the upper 90. Keeper dives and tips into the crossbar and then over for corner
Taken short by DC, played around the back
90th minute 4-1
Ref blows the whistle after KC throw

All in all a pretty good game for the reserves. The passing was a little sloppy (par for the course with reserve games) but the pace was quick and compared to the FC Dallas reserve match there were many more chances generated. DC plainly had the run of play for most of the match, generating chance after chance. While KC certainly threatened a few times, they weren't nearly as dangerous and were lucky to get the goal they did.

Of course, it's hard to know what to think about performances in the reserve league since Mediate looked awful last time and not only got the start but acquitted himself well last night. Likewise a lot of theoretically good players like Quaranta seemed pretty poor last year.

Good to see Filomeno find the net twice and set up another.

Sure would be nice to make some subs in the first team games.

Dyachenko was playing a wing and Moose playing center for much of the game... not sure what that means. My personal suspicion is that the staff thinks Rod is ready for first-team ball, but he has a better chance of seeing time as a wing than as our third or fourth option at attacking midfield.

Nicky looked solid, looks like he's back. One thing in particular that stood out in contrast to what we saw from Troy on Saturday night: distribution. If Nick ends up taking over the first team spot again, It'll be because his distribution is better than Troy's.

My favorite onfield moment came early in the first half when Will John got a pass about 14 yards out apparently with only Rimando to beat. He hesitated and then DeRoux came in with a crunching tackle and cleanly cleared John totally off the ball.

BTW, there was a sighting of the ever elusive David Stokes after the match. He seemed to be walking fine, FWIW.

For those that didn't see it in the news digest, there's an inadvertently comedic article about Andy Metcalf (http://www.jacksonsun.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060514/SPORTS/605140327/1006) in the Jackson Sun. Read it to find out just who the writer is referring to when he says this about Metcalf's teammates:

Metcalf just shakes his head and laughs. If gods come in cleats, they also come in United colors...Metcalf was plopped right into the middle of a lineup that might as well read Ruth, Aaron and Mays.
And there's more where that came from.

OK, who was our number 31?
I asked one of the players before they left the pitch and the response was "I don't really know - we just brought him in because we were short players"

(didn't look like sicknote though)

Sheesh. All the effort Talion made and you didn't even bother to read his game notes before asking :p

Lowry, a trialist wearing number 31, coming in for Moose. Someone says he is a local kid. By DC standards he's big.

The real question is which player did you ask? Clearly not someone who has been playing in the ACC recently.

It was nice to see someone with some size suit up for us, even if it was just as a reserve stand-in role. At least he got to play for his favorite team. Nice to see the locals get a shot!
