Are you satisfied with his first half-seasson at the club?

More than satisfied. He has been a rock at the back and his partnership with Rio is getting better and better. A great signing.

Player of the season. I can't wait to see him line-up with Heinze.

Great quotes about Vidic from Fergie.
From RedCafe, no link though:
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson says his team can only get stronger as Gaby Heinze and Nemanja Vidic return to full fitness.
"They are two of the best defenders in Europe, there's no doubt about that," he said.
"One is a Serbian, the other a South American, and they have that mentality of the proper, really authentic defender. They love defending, they see it as an honourable profession.
"Some defenders would prefer to be known as football players, but the guys who have a vocation for it, like Vidic and Heinze, take great pride in their work, they revel in it. Watch Vidic in training, and he'll batter Louis Saha and then pick him up, as if to say, 'This is my job, this is what I do'.
"I'll be yelling from the touchline, 'Watch the tackling, watch the tackling!' and Vidic will shout, 'Sorry, boss, sorry, boss'. But he's not sorry at all, he just loves defending."

He'll make Rio better once he comes back, and not just by threatening to eat his children if he screws up. No offense to Wesley, who has done a good job overall, but Vidic gives us that hardman we've lacked in the center for a while now. He's only had one poor game which I can recall, other than that he's very solid.

I'd give him a B+ so far. Looks like a very solid, no-frills defender. You get the feeling he could form an A+ partnership with Rio. The thing is, though, he's got to stay healthy. No use playing well if you can't stay on the pitch.

Wesley is a good hardman. The problem is, he commits random fouls that make utterly no sense. I'd actually argue that his primary flaw is being hard indiscriminately.
After Brown commits certain fouls, you just wonder what the ******** he was thinking. Instant danger? Nope. Man going past him? Nope. Retaliation for a bad foul? Nope. He just commits it, for some odd reason, providing the other side with a nice set piece.
It makes you wonder if his mother dropped him a few too many times when he was younger.

Vidic played very well against arsenal last year. I would not be surprised if the Manager gives him the nod over Brown today... But probably not due to lack of match fitness.

Anyone else think that this is a little "better up your game, Rio" message? Just the fact that he said "Some defenders would prefer to be known as football players" made me feel like he was hitting out at Rio, not necesarily in the "I want you out of the club" way, but the "Don't become too much of a big name Charlie" sort of way.

That's pretty much how I feel about Vidic.

Could well be. Steve McLaren has apparently been encouraging Rio to get more involved in the play for England and become more of a "football player" if you like. Maybe, just like you said, it's to remind him of his principal job just in case he let McLaren's encouragement/praise go to his head.

Toughest tackler
It’s close, between Vida and Wes. Neither holds back in a game, but I’ll say Vida, because he’s tough whether it’s an all-or-nothing first-team match or a 5-a-side kickabout. In games, I don’t think anyone beats Wes, though.
Most serious person
Probably Vida. He takes his football very seriously. He does like a laugh, but he’s really focused on the games and in training.
I did find this quote a worry though:
Cleverest player
[Long pause] I’d say Sheasy. I’m not the thickest, but I think Sheasy is probably the cleverest in the squad.
John O'Shea is the cleverest in the squad?? Not exactly filled with rocket scientists if that's the case.

Vidic could be the most clever if he wanted to.
But then the rest of the team would be dead, and we wouldn't want him to do that.

I'm sure Scholes is a part time rocket scientist but the others are so thick they haven't noticed.

The only person who doesn't need to be scared of Vidic is Keano. So yes.
