Rennes deserve a European place and not Nancy

I have no idea why the Coup de la Ligue winner is given UEFA Cup place. Because of that only the 4th place team in the table gets the UEFA Cup place, the 5th place team gets the Intertoto place and 6th place gets unfairly squeezed. Is there anyone besides Nancy fans who can honestly say that they belong in Europe over Rennes ? I just dont see how you can justify having the league cup winner steal a European place from the 6th place team. 4th and 5th place deserve a UEFA Cup spot and 6th place the Intertoto it should be. Thats how its done in other countries.

Winning the Coup de la Ligue is a great achievement and a great prize for the fans but shouldnt that be enough ? Do they really need a direct spot into Europe at the expense of a team like Rennes who got dumped down to 6th place because they only got a draw. Rennes had the better regular season than Nancy and yet they arent rewarded.

Rules are rules, the UEFA spot makes the league cup attractive. I won't moan over this, Rennes or Auxerre or other teams should have been able to win it, the final was Nancy v Nice so it's basically the other teams fault.

A Cup is a cup and should be attractive enough on its own. I dont see how a UEFA spot makes it more attractive. It made Nancy's whole season to win it and if they didnt get a UEFA spot from winning it I doubt a lot of fans would be complaining.

They dont have 2 cups in Spain, Italy and Germany so in Germany 6th place gets a European spot and in Italy and Spain 6th and 7th get a European spot ! Same with England but they have 2 cups but also the extra CL spot.

So, basically, there should be no UEFA spot assorted league cup until Ligue 1 has plenty of them on the European stage ? Why not. Trya and convince Thiriez with that. ;) Now, the French Cup will be telecast on France Television (prior to that, the only Football competition they had rights on was the league cup), so maybe they won't insist too much if the league cup is scrapped in the future...

And if a team like Bordeaux, for instance, had played Nancy in the CDLL final, they would have gone win or lose. Every other league does it this way: maybe Nancy will be playing West Ham in next year's UEFA Cup.

Yes when I say European places/spots I include the Intertoto spots. I was mostly mad about the league cup winner getting a UEFA Cup place because it was at the expense of Rennes but if its indeed at the expense of Auxerre then Im not as upset because I hate Auxerre.

We have two cups in Germany and actually the 6th spot is UI Cup only (4th+5th UEFA Cup).

I'm sorry, but Sportboy has been knocking Nancy for a while now and I'm fed up. Why don't you just give a little club a little credit for god sakes. Nancy averaged 18k in attendance this year, with a stadium that seats 20. Compare that with the 10k Monaco averaged.

Nancy is what it is... A small club with great supporters. The vast majority of our players have been brought up through the youth ranks. So leave us bloody alone, and let us enjoy our 1, 2, or 3 rounds in the Uefa Cup next year.

Actually it is a pretty small league cup with only 6 teams (spot 1-6) that is held before the season is kicked off.
