Why is ORKUT so big in Brazil?

Its amazing..here from the US I can practically find most any of my relatives and friends in Brazil. Its insane, its as if everyone in Brazil with c omputer has an Orkut profile. Brazil is like that though...fads can spread quick and everyone wants in on it. Here in the US its not the same....I would be hard pressed to find any friend on Orkut or another similiar service ...meanwhile if you have friend or family in Brazil age 15 to 40..you are likely to be able to track them down on Orkut. In such a large country that is an amazing thing.

I wonder if they can trace back who was the first Brazilian to get an Orkut profile..that person started something big.

Some kind of internet phenomenon is what started it. It is amazing, I can find the little bairro in ES where my relatives live. Even more amazing, I can find people who actually live on their street. I can also find ACTUAL profiles of players like Fellype Gabriel, Denilson, and Walter Minhoca. I've come across profiles of some of the Brasileirao Musas. Not to mention these profiles aren't fakes.

It's a difficult question. I think it happens because Brasilians loves to see a vida alheia...

Because they literally kicks other people from orkut:

Writing in portugue in threads and community for english speakers, creating love osama/terrorist/anti-americans communities, Creating communities like "F$%# or not iranians girls" linking to the profile of the girls.

And others "brasileirices"...

The brazilian people turns orkut in a hostile place for other people.

orkut was big in Brazil earlier but now its getting the same:) kind of popularity in other parts of the world its:) now getting very popular in India , UK and Pakistan . So basically its the interactive 2.0 feartures due to which orkut (http://www.funrocker.com/orkut.html) is geting popular alover the wotld:)

That's true, I remember once passing in front of an internet shop at the time of orkut peak of popularity, there where like 80% screens showing that blueish page, than passing in front of other of this shops I saw the same. In brazil people seem to like to expose themselves more than in other countries. Maybe this is the reason.
